Naomi Watts Makes It a Family Affair at the Hudson and Cooper Square Hotels

Naomi Watts and her honey, Liev Schreiber spent the past couple of days hanging out at some NYC hotels. On Monday, the Aussie beauty struck some poses for a photo shoot outside of the The Cooper Square Hotel with her photographer bro Ben Watts behind the camera. The actress, who will star in the upcoming flick The International, glammed it up with some little black dresses on the streets of New York.

Then Watts and Schreiber turned out to support Ben at Hudson Hotel on Tuesday. The celebrity and fashion photographer threw a book launch party at the hotel for Lickshot, his new photo scrapbook and travel diary. The book features gritty photos, Polaroids, and hand-scrawled graffiti, held together by slashes of colored tape. Watts and Schreiber partied alongside Ben at the cocktail reception hosted by Moët & Chandon.

Happy Friday — here's a half-nudie lady in the window of the Cooper Square Hotel!

Really, though: last Friday, a Curbed tipster was peering across the street at the just-opened Cooper Square Hotel (it had been open for two days at that point), and imagine said tipster's surprise when he (or she) caught a glimpse of a half-bare booty shaking in a guestroom window.

Apparently, someone was doing some kind of photoshoot that didn't involve wearing pants. And it could be seen from the street.

Did someone quickly discover the pretty views from the guestroom and decide the CSH would be a prime location for a photo sesh, or are these photos going to be part of an upcoming marketing campaign for the hotel itself?

Or maybe they just had the heat turned up too high. Or opening kinks. Or "we got our panties in a wad over the opening, but she didn't." The jokes, they just write themselves.

There's tons of hotel news flying around this week and we don't have time to give each and every story the love and attention it may deserve, so you will have to settle for some news briefs.

· Naomi Watts Hits up the Mercer: The Celebrity Babies Blog (oy) posted a snapshot of Naomi Watts at The Mercer Hotel today.

· Donald Trump Takes Care of J-Hud: Donald Trump has a heart. And he's giving it to the grieving Jennifer Hudson by letting her and her family stay at the Trump Chicago Hotel and Tower for free. [Chicago Sun-Times]

· Layoffs Hit Hotel Amenity Company: Marietta Corp. in upstate NY which makes small bottles of shampoos and other hotel amenity items has laid off 130 employees. Could it be due to the demand for sexy in-room dispensers?

· Anthony Bourdain is Loyal to the Raleigh: Speaking of The Raleigh Hotel today, Anthony Bourdain says this is his favorite hotel in South Beach.

The food at The Raleigh is decent and I come down with my family and hide. [Miami Herald]

· Cooper Square Hotel Folks Like Cooper Square Hotel: We're not quite seeing but apparently, the tide is turning in favor of the Cooper Square Hotel. [Curbed]

What's Wrong With These Pictures of the Cooper Square Lobby?

This morning, our friends over at Curbed pointed us toward World Architecture News' feature on the Cooper Square Hotel, which spotlighted the first-ever photos of hotel's lobby and finally offered an explanation of the building's curious shape. (It was actually meant to evoke "a face starting small at the neck and widening upwards" and not so much a shark's fin or a sail).

When we first glanced at these lobby shots, we thought they were kinda "meh" like the rooms. After looking at them for longer than two seconds, however, it seems that we've arrived at a conclusion: we're loving the spectacular natural light -- and that's about it.

We're not interior designers, so perhaps we are missing the genius of the whole concept here -- but then the fact that we're not interior designers should really give our opinion a little bit more merit, no? We're hotel guests. We're the ones who are supposed to use this space and like it.

And, frankly, we don't. Let's play a game we at HotelChatter like to call What's Wrong With This Picture? Here, we'll get it started with what we can see right off the bat:

· The decals on the doors create a bit of a sushi restaurant vibe.

· That couch does look comfortable. At all.

· That rug just doesn't fit. Something is not quite right. Maybe too much going on with the flowery doors and the rug together?

Cooper Square Almost Open, Looks Just Okay

Curbed has posted some snapshots of a long-awaited, $375-a-night Cooper Square Hotel guest room and well...don't get too excited. It's just a'ight.

We kinda hope the place would be mind-blowingly cool on the inside, given its crazy architecture. But it just looks safe to us. Even Curbed commenters think so. Some observations from the galleys:

· What a boring looking hotel.
· Eeeeewwww, damn its like 70's cheap.
· I've always wanted to sleep in a conference room circa 1971.

Hopefully, they will be tweaking the room design during the soft-opening. Otherwise, we're shacking up at the Thompson LES.

The Cooper Square Hotel Has a Website and Might Even Open Eventually

Well, folks: hell seems to have frozen over.

The Cooper Square Hotel has a website.

Yes, you read that correctly. It's totally bare-bones and has no real content on it, but it gives us hope that the hotel will in fact open someday.

The hotel has been delayed forever -- and in the midst of major drama with Gregory Peck, some folks had even speculated that the project would be scrapped altogether around this time last year -- but is all the drama finally over?

Not only does the website now exist, but Down by the Hipster reported today that the hotel has been marketing itself to fall Fashion Week event planners. Does this mean a fall opening is for sure?

Oh! And the most exciting part: Down by the Hipster also posted some renderings of the interior spaces that have been circulating already - check those out after the jump.

The Cooper Square Hotel :: Will It Ever Open?

Not much new to report here folks. Cooper Square Hotel is still not open. And it still has no website.

So we're highly skeptical of a late summer opening which was the last predicted date for the hotel (after the April/May 2008 time frame came and went)

Indeedy, we are even hearing some rumblings of a late fall opening, leading us to ask "Will we even care about this hotel when it finally does open?" Eh...we probably will. Afterall, we still got giddy when Six Columbus finally opened.

On another note, we hear Page Six Magazine managed to get the feuding hoteliers Matt Moss and Gregory Peck together for an article in its latest issue. Could this be the end of the cold war between the former besties?

(PS. We live in LA now. Not having the Post delivered to us daily is almost as bad as not having Dunkin' Donuts. Almost. Send us a copy of the article if you got one).

Snapshot :: Cooper Square Hotel Nearing Completion

Jaunted editor Paul Brady snapped this shot of the Cooper Square Hotel two weeks ago.

While the hotel is nearing completion on its exterior, the hotel isn't going to open until late Summer. That is if all the drama amongst the feuding hoteliers doesn't rise up again. There's still no website and we haven't seen or heard of any interior pics so it's just a waiting game until then.
