Is Reese Witherspoon Joining the Nashville Hotel Revolution?

March 12, 2015 at 8:35 AM | by | Comments (0)

Printer's Alley, soon to be home to a Virgin, an Ace and... a Witherspoon?

Perhaps it was the ludicrously over the top travel experiences offered to the Oscars nominees in their party packages. Perhaps she wanted some luxury after the wilds of Wild. Whatever – rumor has it this week that Reese Witherspoon is to open a hotel in Nashville.

US Weekly claims that Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth have been down “a few times to look at properties”, and have already met an architect and decorator (before they buy? Dedication).

'American Horror Story's' Next Season Will Take Place in a Hotel with Lady Gaga

March 4, 2015 at 3:23 PM | by | Comments (0)

If hotel occupancy begins to plummet next fall, we might know who's to blame---the Fox TV show, American Horror Story. The creepy show has announced its "theme" for its next terrifying season, which will be "Hotel." (Last year's was "Freak Show.") And no, we don't think it will be about some fancy luxury hotel. It will be a straight-up haunted spot. Also, Lady Gaga plans on joining the cast.

Huffington Post reports that the show could be based on the famed Garden of Allah, a legendary hotel on Sunset Boulevard, which opened in 1927 and was pretty much the Chateau Marmont of Hollywood's Golden Age, where famous people went to get into trouble. (Coincidentally, Chateau is across the street.)

Today it's home to a bank, a McDonald's and a Subway but nearly a hundred years ago, it was just starting out as a hideaway for many actors and creative types like Marlene Dietrich, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Humphrey Bogart and Orson Welles.

The hotel was demolished in the late 1950s but you can still see a replica of its ground at Universal Studios in Orlando. That's where we snapped this shot.

No word on what type of character Lady Gaga will play but we don't think playing an eccentric, possibly possessed, hotel guest would be a stretch.

Kate Middleton Was Quick to Check Out The Goring's Renovations

Part of the new lobby area

One can only assume one’s invite got lost in the post. Fresh off its recent closure, refurbishment and total transformation of the lobby area, The Goring threw a party this week, partly to celebrate its new look, but officially to mark its birthday – 105 years young! Guest of honor was Kate Middleton, who, of course, stayed there during her wedding celebrations and even had the reception there. (Obviously, Kate had seen our photos of the new-look lobby and hurried to see for herself. For unflattering pictures of Kate, see here.)

The party took the form of a lunch, and Kate attended in a personal capacity, while Prince William is on an official visit to China. Eight months pregnant and still dressing up and wearing heels? Guess she didn’t want to fall foul of the Goring’s no-sneakers dress code.

The Weirdest Hotel Robbery Continues to Get Weirder at The London West Hollywood

The Oscar Awards were so last week, but just as the water cooler talk about which movies won and which movies should have won, so continues talk about someone's glamorous dress. Only this is so much more complicated than, "Who are you wearing?"

Just before the weekend, news came out that last year's Oscar winner, Luptia Nyong'o had her expensive Calvin Klein pearl dress stolen from her suite at The London West Hollywood the day after the awards show. At the time, the hotel issued a statement saying the "unfortunate" incident, first reported by TMZ (of course), was true and that they were helping the police in their investigation.

Things took a weird turn on Friday when the dress was RETURNED to the hotel, stuffed inside a garbage bag and left under a bathroom sink in one of the public bathrooms at the hotel. Making the return of the beautiful dress even stranger was that the thief called TMZ (of course) to say that the dress was not worth the estimated $150,000 talked about in the press, because a jeweler told him the pearls on the dress were fake.

You would think that despite the fakery and despite not catching the thief, the case of the missing dress would be largely shut. After all, the dress was returned, no harm, no foul, except maybe two easily replaceable pearls were missing. But no, it gets even weirder.

Has the Boycott of the Beverly Hills Hotel Silently Finished?

In all the stories about the Grammys and the Oscars that have come out over the past few weeks, there was one that really intrigued us – John Legend pulling out of a party at the Beverly Hills Hotel, because of opposition to the Sultan of Brunei.

Very worthy, Mr Legend, we thought – but no more than we’d expect from the man who hired a food truck for Eric Garner protestors in New York.

But then we thought, wait. If Hollywood is boycotting the BHH, why has a top Grammys party been booked there in the first place? Has the boycott silently ended? Does sympathy with people who face an Isis-lite stoning for being gay go out of fashion?

People Stuck on The Bottom While Drake Partied at The Top of the W Scottsdale

Even without a Super Bowl going on, the The W Scottsdale is a hot spot to party. But when you add Super Bowl, Super Bowl parties, celebrities and a Drake concert to the mix, the W is gonna get shut down.

And that's exactly what happened on Saturday night.

AZ Central reports that due to long lines, mixed in with crowds of gawkers, entrance to the hotel and the Bootsy Bellows takeover at the W (BB is a club in Hollywood), was shut down by the fire marshals, reportedly leaving a "one of party's hosts, some of the publicists and even guests who'd paid up to $25,000 for a table up on the second-floor rooftop party deck" unable to enter the party to see Drake perform.

Surprisingly, according to the AZ Central reporter, upstairs on the rooftop pool deck, the "party never felt crowded." Well, good for all those who came early. That said, the spot was still filled with marijuana smoke and obnoxious men ordering 24 bottles of lit-up Dom Perignon. #theworst

The Hotel Jerome in Aspen Got Disicked Over

January 21, 2015 at 7:43 PM | by | Comments (0)

We totally feel for Scott Disick, husband boyfriend baby daddy to Kourtney Kardashian. He had a rough 2014. His parents passed away within three months of each other, and as we witnessed on "Khloe and Kourtney Take The Hamptons" (You know you watched it, admit it), he took to binge drinking to cope with the losses, so much so he was sent to the hospital for alcohol poisoning.

Then in what should have been a happier end to the year, he welcomed his third kid and second son, Reign Aston, in mid-December. Turns out a third kid did not hold Disick down.

He has continued to party it up since the baby's birth, jetting off to Vegas for a wild club weekend and most recently, Aspen, where he and his crew trashed a hotel suite at the recently renovated Hotel Jerome, an Auberge Resort, stole some liquor and blazed up the joint.

Ever mindful of celebrities behaving badly in hotel rooms, TMZ has the scoop:

Sources at Hotel Jerome tell TMZ ... the first night Scott and his crew -- which included famed artist Alec Monopoly -- went out on the town, and when they came back one of his buds jumped over a counter at the bar in the lobby and stole a bottle -- which we think is Johnny Walker Black Label -- which they took back to the room. The hotel didn't call the cops, but charged him $400.

Since its opening in 2008, The London West Hollywood has always been a hot hotel in Los Angeles for celebrities such as Kevin Spacey, David Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow and chef Gordon Ramsay, who has a restaurant there (Sorry, Amanda Bynes.)

But with the opening of The London's new Screening Room, celebs won't have to go far to promote their movie as the press junket will be just an elevator ride away.

The sophisticated 110-seat screening room is located off the main lobby, across from Gordon Ramsay. Designed by Gonzalez Architects with interiors by Richmond Design, it's the largest screening room for a hotel in Los Angeles. And as Hollywood rides out the rest of the 2015 awards season, the room will be in hot demand.

But unlike a lot of things in Los Angeles, there's actually something beneath the pretty surface of this room.

Forget Christmas and New Year's. Right now is the most wonderful time of the year for the Beverly Hilton.

On Sunday, the hotel is set to host, once again, The Golden Globes Awards in their International Ballroom, as well as an equally glamorous event outside the hotel--the red carpet arrivals.

If you're hoping to catch a glimpse of hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey or your favorite TV and movie stars, alas, rooms at the hotel are sold-out. Being able to watch the red carpet arrivals is also a lost cause this late in the game.

But should you want to know what the celebs are eating inside while you're stalking them outside, InStyle has the scoop on the menu and not surprisingly, it includes a "modern Waldorf salad." Wonder if it will be accompanied by advertisements for the upcoming Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills that's being built next to the Hilton?

Ellie Goulding Wants to Know What's That Smell at The Miami Beach Edition?

Pop singer and royal wedding entertainer, Ellie Goulding, recently wrapped up a stay at the new Miami Beach Edition and like most jet setting travelers, took to Instagram to show off a snapshot. But while she definitely enjoyed herself, she had a burning question--what is that smell in the lobby?

When we were there in November, we didn't really smell anything in particular, except maybe the goodness wafting out of Jean-Georges Vongerichten's Market. However, we do know that Edition carries custom-created, faintly masculine scented Le Labo toiletries in their guest rooms. So perhaps it was a variation of that? Eh, we still think it was coming from the Market. That place is gooood.

Best Celebrity Performance: Solange Gets Feisty in the Elevator at The Standard

December 30, 2014 at 12:32 PM | by | Comments (0)

It's that time of year again: the 2014 HotelChatter Awards! Today and tomorrow, we'll be showcasing the best (and worst) of hotels over the past year. But we couldn't do it without you! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or shoot us an email. And the Award goes to...

This was almost a tricky one. We were swayed by Snoop Dogg’s sweet behavior at a random Holiday Inn Express in Devon, and intrigued by Kate Middleton’s inroads into the hotel scene, first snubbing the Dorchester boycott to attend a party, and then wowing NYC with her stay at the Carlyle.

Made in Manhattan Kate in Manhattan Middleton in Manhattan! If you’ve read any serious newspaper today, you’ll know that Kate and Wills, occasionally known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, touched down in New York yesterday for a two-night stay - the first time either of them have been to the Big Apple. A historic occasion, then. Which lucky hotel did they pick to bestow their charms and future booking increase on?

The Carlyle.

The royals – or this couple, anyway – have history with the Carlyle. Princess Diana stayed there twice – first in 1995, and then in 1997, just two months before she died. This time around, a 200-strong crowd was waiting for five-months-pregnant Kate and William.
