Who Wants 'Professional' Tips on Hotel Room Trashing From Bret Michaels?

July 28, 2014 at 12:18 PM | by | Comments (0)

Nearly three years after Bret Michaels boasted of "professionally" showing Charlie Sheen how to trash a hotel room, the 80s rock star has let loose with some more "pro" tips. (Bret who? If you're a millennial, here's a tutorial.)

He told Yahoo Travel the following:

“There’s got to be a massive kick, usually into a closet door — a little hollow in there, so you get your foot through it so you feel fired up when it happens,” says Bret.

Always smash things that create noise. “Find a vase or something that’s going to shatter loudly,” says Bret. “Go after the coffee machine — that’s a good one — anything from the minibar. Make sure it’s loud and a lot of glass involved and there are no children within eye-shatter range.” Major warning: Nothing should be thrown out the window, as lawsuits ensue.

Lastly, it’s very important to pay the bill. Bret would know. He’s greeted back with open arms (almost) everywhere. “I’m welcome back anywhere that I destroy, as long as I pay the bill and they can fix the room. It makes for great stories.”

Hot on the heels of knickergate, Kate Middleton has moved onto her next controversy: breaking the Dorchester Collection boycott.

According to the ever reliable Daily Mail, she attended her cousin’s wedding at the The Dorchester Hotel itself in London last Friday.

Possibly aware of the controversy her visit might cause, or possibly to prevent any more wardrobe malfunctions, she arrived in a blacked out car, arrived and left via the back door, and took nine protection officers with her.

Meanwhile, Princes William and Harry hit up another Dorchester Collection venue at the weekend: Coworth Park, for a celeb charity polo event.

Someone in Hotel Surveillance is Now Looking for a New Job

May 15, 2014 at 9:09 AM | by | Comments (0)

Your elevator shenanigans at The Standard New York are safe once again.

According to the Washington Post, The Standard Hotel has identified and fired the person who sold the elevator surveillance video of Solange beating up Jay-Z last week. Word is TMZ bought the video for a reported $250,000.

The hotel hasn't named the person (darnit) which only fuels our new theory that Beyonce leaked the footage because she was pissed at Solange for beating up her man. But drunk in revenge conspiracies aside, The Standard also said they would turn over "all available information to criminal authorities.” It's safe to say this person will never work in hotels again. So spend that $250,000 quick!

Also, whoever you are, The Dorchester Collection thanks you very much for taking the heat off them for a little bit.

The Standard Hotel in NYC came under fire yesterday after the surveillance footage of Solange slugging her brother-in-law Jay-Z was sold released to TMZ. And they should be feeling the heat. Are elevator rides no longer sacred?

But we digress. Apparently, the hotel has released this statement to the media and as we suspected, they are cleaning house when it comes to their surveillance team.

"We are investigating with the utmost urgency the circumstances surrounding the situation and, as is our customary practice, will discipline and prosecute the individuals involved to our fullest capacity."

Meanwhile, every hotel that caters to celebrities (and non-celebs!) better redo their security and surveillance contracts.

Did Someone at The Standard Hotel Sell The Surveillance Footage of Solange Attacking Jay-Z?

Where: 848 Washington St [map], New York, NY, United States, 10014

Celebrities are just like us! Their sisters try to beat up their husbands in hotel elevators!

Just when we thought Beyonce and Jay-Z had the most amazing drunk in love sort of fabulous life, comes this surveillance footage of B's sister, Solange, hitting and kicking Jay-Z in the elevator at The Standard High Line Hotel after the glamorous Met Gala last week while Beyonce stands by.

Who knows what set Solange off but what has set us off is that it looks like someone at The Standard Hotel decided to sell this footage to TMZ. Um, aren't hotels supposed to protect their guests' privacy? Especially those of such high-profile guests like Beyonce and Jay-Z? Fun fact: Beyonce shot one of her recent music videos at the hotel last year.

Of course, it would be different if a crime was committed in the elevator and the police released the footage to help with the investigation but we don't think smacking your brother-in-law is punishable by law (we could be wrong!)

Jay-Z and Beyonce May Have Ditched Le Meurice for Fouquet’s Barrière in Paris

With all the brouhaha regarding the Government of Brunei’s archaic and decidedly evil new law approving stoning to death as proper punishment for being gay or having an affair, some celebs have either quietly or openly decided to boycott Dorchester Collection Hotels, which are owned by the Sultan of Brunei.

During our recent stay at Hotel Fouquet’s Barrière in Paris we were interested to hear that the last celebs to stay at the hotel were none other than Jay-Z and Beyoncé, formerly fans of The Dorchester Collection’s Le Meurice Hotel.

In fact, the couple is such fans of the food at the hotel’s restaurant, La Petite Maison de Nicole, we hear they have it delivered to wherever they are in the city.

Fouquet’s Barrière’s past is directly tied to the music and film industry. In 1898 Fouquet’s restaurant opened at the corner of the Champs-Elysées and Avenue George V (where it still is today). When the very first theaters opened in Paris in the 1930s, Fouquet’s was close by and became the go-to place for socializing for both the dealmakers and stars of the shows. Here contracts were signed, cast parties were held and films were premiered.

Wintour and Others Walk It Out at The Mark Hotel Before Last Night's Met Gala

She's so fancy, but you already know...

After last year's disastrous cutting edge punk party, the Costume Institute Met Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, co-chaired by Vogue's Anna Wintour, took on a more refined air this year with the "White Tie and Decorations" theme. Celebs and models alike came to the event dressed in the best of the best couture but probably left a little lighter in the pockets as tickets start at $25,000.

Before hitting the red carpet, the pretty faces and bold names strutted their stuff outside The Mark Hotel, the traditional pre-Met Gala party spot. Here's a look at what Anna, Posh and Becks, Bradley Cooper (another co-chair!) and our girl crush Lupita Nyong'o were wearing last night.

Bradley Cooper goes literal with the "White tie" theme.

Posh and Becks keep it, well, Posh and Becks style.

We heart everything about this picture. She can do no wrong.

While the tickets to the Met are out of your price range, the rooms at The Mark are "only" $695 a night for a superior queen room.

Prince Harry Living The Single Life Again at LIV Nightclub at The Fontainebleau

May 1, 2014 at 3:45 PM | by | Comments (0)

It's no naked game of pool in Vegas but we'll take any sort of Prince Harry hotel sighting that we can get.

According to the Miami Herald's gossip columnist, Lesley Abravanel, Prince Harry, fresh off a break-up, and his buddies were at the LIV nightclub at The Fontainebleau Resort in Miami Beach last night. Abravanel writes:

Harry kept his plaid shirt on and danced in the comforts of his own skybox. As for pictures of this controlled debauchery, no such luck. Neither pictures nor DJ shout outs were allowed as "per his security detail." Staffers were sworn to secrecy or else it was off with their heads--and their jobs. "I wouldn't have known he was there if it wasn't for you," said one LIV employee.

What we want to know is, did Harry spend the night?? We're guessing probably not because this is Miami and there are many mansions for a Prince to playhide the ginger sausage in.

But what's also interesting is that Abravanel reports Harry is on his way to Memphis for the wedding of his friend Guy Pelly to Elizabeth Wilson, granddaughter of the founder of Holiday Inn chain of motels and hotels, Kemmons Wilson.

Of course, there are several Holiday Inns in Memphis but even though Prince Harry has stayed in a Courtyard by Marriott before, we hope the Wilson family has something more luxurious in mind for him.

Ellen DeGeneres No Longer Loves The Pink Palace (and Other Dorchester Hotels)

April 30, 2014 at 9:29 AM | by | Comments (4)

We don't want to quit you!

It looks like The Dorchester Collection has a very serious problem on their hands.

Last week, when the fashion world told people to boycott the hotel group because of their association with the government of Brunei, which will now stone people to death for being homosexual, Ellen DeGeneres also publicly tweeted that she too, will be boycotting both the Hotel Bel-Air and The Beverly Hills Hotel.

We've actually seen Ellen at the Beverly Hills Hotel, aka The Pink Palace, where her and wife Portia dined downstairs in the Fountain Coffee Shop, a popular spot for not just celebs but locals too. The hotel collection is clearly caught between a rock and hard place (no pun intended) as they continue to be open to all guests and have indeed said as much in a public statement last week:

Dorchester Collection’s Code, endorsed by the company’s ownership, emphasizes equality, respect and integrity in all areas of our operation, and strongly values people and cultural diversity amongst our guests and employees.”

Yet it doesn't sound like there's much more they can do without biting the hand that feeds them. It's sad because we pretty much love all the Dorchester Collection Hotels. At least to visit for lunch or drinks as we couldn't regularly afford the pricey hotel rooms anyways. So our problem is solved. But rich people with a conscious may have to wait a while.

What do you think--should guests boycott a hotel based on what the hotel owner says or does (see also: Donald Sterling or should guests put that aside and enjoy the hotel experience for what it is? Sound off in comments below!

The Opposite of Zen: Justin Bieber Stays at The Mandarin Oriental Miami

Go To The Hotel's Web

Despite nearly everyone hating on Justin Bieber these days, the kid is still shacking up in expensive luxury hotels and bringing all his faux-thug drama with him.

Take a look at this photo which made the rounds on the internet over the weekend. This sums up in one picture why you don't want to ever be staying at the same hotel as Bieber (He's in the red backwards hat.) Making it even worse, we discovered the hotel to be the Mandarin Oriental in Miami, one of our favorite hotels there.

Judging from the balcony dividers, Bieber and his crew were clearly in a suite near the top of the hotel. The largest suite at the MO Miami is the Oriental Suite which has over 2,000-sq.ft. of space and a balcony that runs the entire length of the suite. This is probably where Bieber was kicking it. But still, it can only sleeps three people with just one master bedroom and a living room. Let's hope all those people on the balcony had rooms of their own.

In good news for Bieber, the suite does come with complimentary car service to and from the airport, so at least he won't have to drive while high in Miami again.
