This Can't End Well: Lindsay Lohan Returns to the Chateau Marmont

February 3, 2012 at 2:46 PM | by | Comment (1)

The oft-repeated saying in Hollywood is "If get in trouble, do it at the Chateau Marmont but if you're Lindsay Lohan, a troubled actress whose every move is watched by tabloids, we'd say the iconic hotel tucked away above Sunset is the last place she should be right now.

About six years ago, Lohan racked up at $500,000 bill at the hotel while living at the hotel. Here's what she told Vanity Fair about the place back then:

"It's like a house, it's so weird. I'm like, 'This is my den.' Like, three people were lying on the second floor and walking up to my staircase." She catches herself and lets out a goofy laugh, "My Staircase!"

However, this time, Lohan won't have to worry about paying a hefty hotel bill. RadarOnline.com reports that an "artist friend" has loaned her his room while she finds a new place to live. But she will have to worry about nightlife temptations.

Florence Welch Set Fire to Her Room at The Bowery Hotel After Drinking with Kanye West

January 31, 2012 at 6:38 PM | by | Comments (0)

That might be one of the oddest headlines we've ever written but it's all true. Flame-haired (heh) singer Florence Welch, the frontleader of Florence and the Machine known for her powerhouse voice and questionably retro bathing suits, nearly burned down the Bowery Hotel in Manhattan.

The rocker recently told Britain' Q Magazine that she accidentally left a cinnamon tea light burning:

“I came back to the hotel, passed out in my ripped dress – no phone, chipped tooth – came round and there was black stuff all over the wall, my book had melted on the bedside table and there was a bucket of water on the floor. Actually the last scene you want to wake up to with a hangover. Half the room was singed.”

The Gansevoort Park was so Kim's last failed marriage ago! The new place to find your fave Kardashians is now the W Dallas Hotel & Residences where Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom are renting a two-bedroom penthouse condo.

Naturally, where there's one Kardashian, there's always at least a couple of more visiting. That's what happened last week when Khloe was visited by Kim, Kourtney and mom Kris. Later on, brother, Krobert, er, we mean, Robert arrived and the fam headed to watch Lamar play for his new team, the Dallas Mavericks.

Since there probably wasn't enough room for the rest of the Kardashians in Khloe and Lamar's apartment, we're gonna go ahead and presume they grifted booked the best suite in the hotel which is the E-WOW Suite which includes 1,323 square feet of space on the 15th floor, a master bedroom and bath, a dining table for six, a wet bar, kitchen, living room and a 60" plasma screen TV, good for watching the Kourtney and Kim Take New York marathons on E!

A New Hotel-Themed Show Is Coming To Comedy Central

January 27, 2012 at 9:00 AM | by | Comments (0)

Since we still haven't heard anything about Andre Balazs' rumored HBO miniseries on the Chateau Marmont, it's a good thing another network has picked up the slack. Comedy Central has ordered a pilot episode of Almost Vacant, which Deadline describes as following "the misadventures of two inept friends, Jim and Nic, as they work at a low-end budget hotel in upper New York."

The show's been written by Nicolas Wright (above) and James Woods, who co-starred in IFC's The Business, which was about an ex-softcore-porn-director trying to make a name for himself as a respectable indie filmmaker. While not too many details on Almost Vacant have emerged, we're sure glad to see more hotel-set TV shows hitting the airwaves (see also: Gordon Ramsay).

As we've known for quite some time now, you don't have to hang around in a hotel for long to see some pretty crazy shiz.

Eric Goode Doesn't Just Specialize in Hotels For Humans

Hoteliers tend to be people with many interests—real estate, seaplanes, blondes. And, apparently, turtles. According to an article in the current New Yorker, hotelier Eric Goode is a major herpetophile—or, in English, a reptile geek—and has been collecting turtles since he was a little boy.

When he's not dashing between his Manhattan properties (The Bowery, The Jane, The Maritime), he likes to hang out at a five-acre turtle preserve he owns in Ojai, California. There, he recreates the turtles' natural habitat, quarantines newcomers, and even has workers whip up a special "chelonean carnivore gelatine" for them to eat. Yuk!

Though the New Yorker claims that Goode is alternating between two parallel lives, to us, it just seems like different sides of the same coin. If you can make a living pampering humans, why not turtles?

We know hotel valet parking can be astronomical, but how much do you think it costs to airlift your car onto the pool?

If you're Dwayne Wade, the answer is nada. In yet another installment of The Darndest Things Happen to Hotels When Celebrities are Staying There, the Miami Heat star had a huge 30th birthday bash at The Setai on Sunday night, where he received this lavish gift from a local car dealership.

TMZ has the exclusive photos of the elaborate steps it took to get the 2012 McLaren MP4-12C into the hotel's inner courtyard pool where the party took place, along with a shot of a beaming Wade receiving it.

In the ever-expanding universe of Twitter, there is one particular trend @HotelChatter happens to quite enjoy: candid hotel photos. These Twitpics range from stunning views to anti-views to celebrity tomfoolery and everything in between. And we can't get enough of 'em! Every Monday, we will feature one "Twitpic of the Week" to commemorate our favorite hotel-themed snapshot. Got a favorite of your own? Want to show off your sweet suite? Send it in!

For many actors, the real party took place not during last night's awards ceremony, but afterwards, inside the Beverly Hills Hilton's kitchen. OK, maybe just for one actor. But still. @EricStonestreet, who was nominated last night for his role as "Cameron" on Modern Family (and which managed to pick up this year's award for "Best Comedy Series"), was clearly enjoying himself during a late-night visit to the hotel's kitchen.

He better be careful. If Gordon Ramsay catches him in there, it's over.

Gordon Ramsay Heads To Pennsylvania For More 'Hotel Hell'

Yep, it's that bad

After discovering late last month that The Keating Hotel in San Francisco will be one of the hotels featured ripped apart by Gordon Ramsay on Hotel Hell, we've been dying to know which other towns across the country will be getting visits from his spiky-haired highness.

Now, we can add Milford, Pennsylvania to the list. The New Jersey Herald is reporting that Ramsay will be making over the River Rock Inn, a B&B housed in a 10-bedroom Victorian-style house built in 1876.

According to the hotel's Facebook page, producers for the show have taken over all bookings, and have so far received over 1500 reservation requests, from (we're guessing) hotel geeks trying to get front row seats of Ramsay working his magic. And judging from the pictures, this place really does need some magic. Or a sledgehammer.

The Darndest Things Happen to Hotels When Celebrities are Staying There

January 6, 2012 at 2:52 PM | by | Comment (1)

It's been a wild and wacky first week of 2012 for celebrities staying at hotels. While we've chronicled some of the outlandish escapades, there's still a ton more we think you would enjoy reading about. Happy Friday!

· The Shelborne South Beach Lets Lebron James Eat Cake, Whatever Cake He Likes: Apparently, a Boca Raton baker's $3,000 cake that she whipped up for Miami Heat player, Lebron James, for his New Year's Eve party at the Shelborne Hotel was just not good enough. Even though the hotel, which just unveiled pretty new rooms, promised the baker publicity in exchange for free cake, once Lebron got a look at the thing, he demanded a different one. Sigh. Is there a hastag for Rich People Party Problems?

· Sofia Vergara Brings Lusty Nurse Fantasties to Life at The Bellagio: The Modern Family stunner was leaving the new Hyde Club at The Bellagio in Las Vegas at 3am when a young woman collapsed near her. Sofia ran to the woman, checked her pulse and remained by her side until real paramedics came. We wouldn't be surprised if people started passing out near Sofia more often.

Possibly The Stupidest Hotel Thief Ever Tries To Burgle Mike Tyson

Go To The Hotel's Web

If we could be handing out more HotelChatter awards this week, this story would be a slam dunk in the "stupidest hotel thief ever" category (which shouldn't be confused with most inventive thief, or luckiest thief).

An unnamed intruder broke into a room at The Cosmopolitan shortly after midnight on New Year's Eve—probably assuming its inhabitants would be out partying. Which they weren't. Nor, he soon found out, were they just any old hotel guests. Fast asleep in bed, with his family around him, was heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, who woke to strange "rustling sounds" and the glare of the intruder's flashlight, TMZ reports.

Incredibly, the thief got away with his ear face intact. On second thought, maybe that "luckiest thief" title should go to him after all.

Every Party Needs A Pooper, That's Why We Invited You, Russell Brand, To the Savoy

Celebrating New Year's Eve as a newly single man, Russell Brand wasn't exactly his usual cheery self as he struggled to come to terms with his divorce, alone in London. The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star attempted to get as far away as possible from ex-wife Katy Perry—over 5,000 miles, to be exact—who meanwhile was partying it up at Soho House in West Hollywood.

According to The Mirror, Russell moped around The Savoy, ordering room service (meal for one), offsetting it with some time at the gym, and generally spreading his misery around the place like a bad smell. When one guest went up to him to wish him a happy New Year, Brand responded: "Here's hoping it gets happier." Or should we call him Eeyore.
