Your Plaza Hotel Bellman Might Be Mariah Carey in Drag

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 5th Ave at 59th Street [map], New York, NY, United States, 10019

| July 1, 2009 at 9:12 AM | 0 Comments

As you're checking into The Plaza, look closely at your bellman: does he seem to have a went-out-of-style in 2002 goatee that appears to be fake-ish? Does that stubble look airbrushed? Do those deep brown eyes look a little... feminine?

Maybe it's Mariah Carey in drag, then.

Okay, not really — but MTV News has some snaps from the video shoot Mariah Carey recently did at The Plaza for her new single, "Obsessed," in which the diva gets dressed up in drag — in some shots, she's dressed up as someone who very, very closely resembles rapper Eminem, and in some scenes she's dressed as a Plaza bellman. Hehe.

We're not so sure where The Plaza comes into play here — the song is about a dude who goes around claiming that he and Mariah are, as the song says, "sexin," which is what some people believe to be a very thinly-veiled shot at rapper Eminem, who apparently released a song a while ago about wanting to steal Mariah "back" from her hubby — but, like, who knew divas had a sense of humor?

Craig David and Donna Summer Bring 'Hot Stuff' To Cala di Volpe

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: Costas Smeralda, Porto Cervo, Italy, 07020

| June 30, 2009 at 11:10 AM | 0 Comments

Be still, our beating hearts. You know how Craig David’s been off the scene for what seems like eons? Well he’s coming back in style — by hitting Sardinia to sing his little heart out this summer.

Not just him, either; the posh Hotel Cala di Volpe on the Costa Smeralda is also throwing a concert with Donna Summer on July 25 (Craig’s is on August 13, by the way).

It sounds like a pretty fly setting: around the biggest outdoor seawater pool in Europe, overlooking the sea itself. Starwood, who own the hotel, is calling the summer series “a soundtrack exuding dynamic energy and cool”. Sounds like hot stuff ; we’re telling ourselves we were born to do it (sorry).

Rates here start around 315 EUR (440ish USD) — but they can get pricey; we've seen the same standard room up around 1,110 EUR.

Travel + Leisure Picks Out the 'Most Notorious' Hotel Rooms

| June 22, 2009 at 9:55 AM | 4 Comments

Before we stayed at the Hollywood Roosevelt last week, we jotted down the property's few haunted room numbers in the hopes of avoiding them (Marilyn Monroe in 246 and Montgomery Clift in 928). Still, infamous hotel rooms aren't restricted to the ghosts of Hollywood; they're to be found all around the world, and Travel + Leisure wants to direct you to their list of the Most Notorious Hotel Rooms, which features mostly US properties (with one exception for Michael Jackson).

Mimicking previous lists like the truly international one from AskMen, the T+L rundown is entertaining, but a bit weak—where is the Lorraine Hotel where Martin Luther King Jr was murdered, or room 552 at Edinburgh's Balmoral Hotel where JK Rowling wrote?

Perez Hilton Tweets to Summon Police to Toronto's SoHo Metropolitan

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 318 Wellington St W [map], Toronto, ON, United States, M5V3T4

| June 22, 2009 at 9:30 AM | 2 Comments

Ugh. Can you imagine being a guest at the SoHo Metropolitan Hotel last night and having to deal with a bunch of police officers skulking around the place in the wee hours of the morning because Perez Hilton sent out a dramatic plea for help over Twitter?

Okay, let's back up. Allegedly, here's what went down in Toronto last night: celeblogger Perez Hilton was in Toronto to present at the MuchMusic Awards on Sunday night, and he had attended an afterparty at a TO nightclub. At some point over the course of the evening, something happened to result in Perez bleeding and so he blamed Black Eyed Peas' will.I.am and his security guards, accusing them of beating him up.

And how did he choose to announce and deal with this incident? He Twittered about it:

· I'm in shock. I need the police ASAP. Please come to the SoHo Metropolitan Hotel now. Please.

· I was assaulted by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas and his security guards. I am bleeding. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke.

· Still waiting for the police. The bleeding has stopped. I need to document this. Please, can the police come to the SoHo Met Hotel.

A little bit later, he tweeted, "the Toronto police are here now. Thank you. Please stop calling them." Were people really calling them on his behalf? Really? Guh.

Well, we're not sure what the deal is here, but we do know that the SoHo Metropolitan will forever be remembered as the hotel from which an injured Perez tweeted for help. Iconic.

The Empire Hotel is a Revolving Door of Celebrities

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 44 W 63rd St [map], New York, Ny, United States, 10023

| June 18, 2009 at 10:52 AM | 0 Comments

If the The Empire Hotel actually had a revolving door, we could say that the hotel is a revolving door of celebrities — literally — but even with a boring set of pull doors, celebrities keep on coming and going from this Midtown West hotel. And some of these recent celebs have actual talent (unlike The Kardashians.)

Orlando Jones is shacking up at the Empire in a $1,500-a-night suite while he does he stint on Broadway, starring in The Wiz. Also, Heidi Klum stayed at the hotel to attend a Victoria's Secret Beauty luncheon on the pooldeck. According to a source, she was "wonderful and smiley" but was a little tired (probably because she's pregnant, AGAIN) and talked about taking a cat nap in her suite.

Paris Hilton Doesn't Let Breakup Interfere With Busy Table-Dancing Schedule

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 1 Borgata Way [map], Atlantic City, NJ, United States, 08401

| June 16, 2009 at 2:53 PM | 1 Comment

Paris Hilton is going through yet another breakup as yet another one of her "I'm so in love, we'll be together forever" relationships has crashed and burned. The poor fella' this time? Doug Reinhardt. The "table-dancing must go on" post-breakup venue? mur.mur at The Borgata Hotel & Spa in Atlantic City.

Paris hosted a night at the club this past Saturday with some fake "BFFs" and some real ones like fashion designer Richie Rich. Paris even was paid to say shouted out that "mur.mur is the best club in Atlantic City. Borgata is Vegas on the East Coast. So hot I love it!"

Apparently, the party girl stopped at the hotel on her way to Dubai and spent a night in one of The Water Club hotel rooms. Before hitting up mur.mur, she dined at Izakaya with friends. Also in attendance that night at mur.mur was Danny Veltri, recent winner of Hell’s Kitchen, who is getting ready for the opening of Fornelletto Cucina Italiana from Chef Stephen Kalt this summer. In the words of Paris herself, "Yeah, that's hot."

More Paris party pics after the jump.

The HotelChatter Diva Tracker: Mariah, Beyonce and Madge

| June 12, 2009 at 10:17 AM | 0 Comments

Mariah arrives at the Dorchester.

If you were a pop-star diva a la Madonna and could, ostensibly, spend nights in any hotel in the whole entire world, where would you go? The Seasons? The Ritz? We'd guess old-school, Sean-Penn-era Madge would probably hit up The Standard NYC with all its public sexytime craziness — and, oh, wait, this just in: rumor has it she's there right now.

The Stan D'Arde Twitter spread some hot goss on the Internet this morning: "Madonna is @StandardNY. Shhhhhhh." Yes, yes. We'll be quiet about it when we're skulking around the High Line this evening.

Lindsay Lohan Skips The May Fair and Heads for Blakes Hotel

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 33 Roland Gardens, London, United Kingdom, SW7 3PF

| June 8, 2009 at 3:07 PM | 0 Comments

When Lindsay Lohan checked into the May Fair hotel for her current stay in London, we felt a bit miffed. Mainly because we’ve had a bit of a downer on the hotel since we read last week that it’s letting superbrat Peaches Geldof stay there for a fraction of its normal £330-a-night cost, and throwing free food and booze at her while she’s at it.

Because she’s a name worth having? Hardly. Somehow, she’s wormed her way onto their “ambassador scheme”, which doles out the perks on the basis that she plugs them and their ”ludicrously comfy beds” wherever possible.

Seeing as LiLo is in a different celeb stratosphere to Peaches, it irked us that she was staying there while the place was tainted by the Geldof numbskull. So we were very pleased to see that, according to thelondonpaper*, Lindsay has twice in the past week skipped the May Fair for Blakes Hotel in Kensington, which has been playing host to her ladylove.

Don’t blame her. Although let’s hope LiLo isn’t on the ambassador scheme too – the May Fair might not be getting their money’s worth if she is…

The Dudes From 'The Bachelorette' Take Over the Fairmont Vancouver

Go To The Hotel's Web

| June 8, 2009 at 9:41 AM | 0 Comments

We sort of prefer The Bachelor to The Bachelorette — what? Doesn't everyone? — but when it comes down to it, we'll watch it if we've got nothin' else happening on a rainy summer night. And then we get addicted to it and yada yada; you know the rest.

We suppose we'll now have a valid excuse to switch it on, though: tonight's episode is hotel geek-esque. The Bachelorette, Jillian, actually surprises the thirteen suitors "with a romantic trip to her hometown of Vancouver."

NYC Celeb Roundup: Awkwardness at Le Parker Meridien, Fun at The Jane

| June 5, 2009 at 9:34 AM | 0 Comments

Hey! For once, we have a report of some positive(ish) happenings at The Jane! Well, kinda: there was a party there full of celebs that seems to have concluded without incident. The movie Away We Go (a promising-looking Garden State-esque film starring the can-do-no-wrong John Krasinski) had its premiere party there, and Kate Winslet apparently showed up (her hubby directed the film) — notable, to Page Six at least, because where the The Jane is now was allegedly actually the building that "housed and sheltered all of the [Titanic's] survivors right after the 1912 tragedy, and a memorial service was held there at the time."

Kinda neat, right? And nice to hear of a successful party happening at the Jane, no matter what ends up going down with that whole liquor license/rooftop terrace ordeal.

And uptown at Le Parker Meridien on Tuesday night, some reports of something kind of awkward: Showtime had a "hospital-themed" party for its new (and excellent!) show, "Nurse Jackie," which stars Edie Falco — where things "turned all too real...when an elderly female guest collapsed and had to be carted out on a stretcher."

The awkward part: since the party was decorated with hospital beds and an X-ray machines and all that, The Post reported that people sorta ignored it 'cause they thought it was part of the theme. Oh: and celebs in attendance were Julianna Margulies, LL Cool J and Debra Winger. Whoops.

Leo Was Chillin' Out, Maxin', Relaxin' All Cool at Hotel Gansevoort

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 18 Ninth Avenue [map], New York, NY, United States, 10014

| June 3, 2009 at 9:40 AM | 0 Comments

Leonardo DiCaprio was out havin' a nice little New York weekend and rolled up to the Gansevoort on his bike to get some relaxin' done at Garden of Ono, the bar that "attracts crushingly stylish 20-somethings and moneyed hot shots who spring for bottle service in plush cabanas," according to New York Magazine. But then he was carded! Didn't they know who he was? Oh, the horror.

And hey, more importantly: when's the last time we had a celeb sighting at the Gansevoort NYC? That doesn't happen too much nowadays when there's not a specific party going on, does it?

Maybe the doormen weren't really expecting him or something; Page Six reports that Leo was IDed at the door (oh noes — or should we say "Ono"?):

He was so nondescript in sunglasses and a baseball hat when he showed up on a bicycle at the Garden of Ono club at the Hotel Gansevoort that he was carded at the door. After realizing who he was, the doorman let him in, bike and all.

Yeah, see, we're not so sure we'd really recognize him if he was biking around in sunglasses and a hat; he'd sort of just look like a regular dude to us. Speaking of regular, isn't the Gansevoort sorta becoming a regular hotel nowadays with fewer and fewer celebs being spotted there? Or are we just not paying close enough attention?

Charlie Chaplin's House is Now a Luxe Hotel Where Celebs Hook Up

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 819 N Sweetzer Ave [map], Los Angeles, CA, United States, 90069

| June 2, 2009 at 2:06 PM | 1 Comment

Whoa. Okay, so let's get this out of the way first: apparently Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson — yes, the Twilight costars — hooked up the other night. X17 is reporting that their photogs caught the vampirey duo eating after the MTV Movie Awards (riveting, really) and then they booked themselves into a "private chateau" at a hotel — from which they emerged at noon looking a little bit frazzled and walk-of-shame-y. Now people are saying they're dating. Or hooking up, at least.

Regardless, what's important here is this: the hotel R-Patz and Kristen checked into was The Charlie, a luxe hotel made up of 14 bungalows in West Hollywood, which was once the site of Charlie Chaplin's house. Cool, right? How come we'd never heard about this place before?
