With staycations all the rage these days, we've decided to take a look at some of the best places in the U.S. for quick, close-to-home trips. Up first is Carmel-by-the-Sea, a small yet upscale town on the Monterey Peninsula. Known for its devotion to the arts and its celeb residents (Clint Eastwood was once mayor here), Carmel is also home to small hotels and inns galore. Enjoy.

Ok. File this one under Major Cubicle Dreamin' Destination. It's the Bernardus Lodge and we actually first heard about this place from from Perfect Escapes' Eric Jeck a few months back. And he told us to hit up the hotel as soon as possible.

The hotel is located in Carmel Valley, which is a few miles inland from town and the beaches. But if you're a wine-lover, this place is your place. The lodge has its own winery and most intriguingly, a "wine grotto mini-bar."

Carmel Hotel Guide :: The Best Western is Right in the Middle of the Action

Up first is Carmel-by-the-Sea, a small yet upscale town on the Monterey Peninsula. While the sweeping scenery of the Monterey Peninsula with its rocky coastline and cypress trees is not to be missed on a visit to Carmel nor is the historic mission, there is a lot of action in the middle of town.

"Town" begins at Junipero Avenue with the main thoroughfare being Ocean Avenue. Here you can pop in and out of touristy shops, high-end fashion boutiques, expensive jewelry stores and pricey art galleries alike.

With this cachet of stores on hand in Carmel, you may want to save your pennies for some pretty things instead of forking over hundreds of dollars just for a room with a view.

Thus if you care more about being within walking distance to the action instead of snuggling up in luxury sheets, the The Best Western Carmel Bay View Inn might be for you. Just keep in mind, that it's still a Best Western.

Carmel Hotel Guide :: The Tickle Pink Inn Has Views That Will Tickle You Silly

With a name like Tickle Pink Inn, it seems hard to take this place seriously. But this inn is all business when it comes to offering you an extraordinary vantage point of the Monterey coastline in extreme comfort.

Rated #1 by reviewers on TripAdvisor, the Tickle Pink Inn is located just off the scenic Highway 1 on Highland Drive. The inn has 35 "casually elegant" rooms and suites, all with views of either the ocean or the coves of the Carmel Highlands.

If you want to getaway to do nothing but hibernate in a cozy room and enjoy a misty view of waves crashing with occasional sunshine, then this is the place. Pack your Uggs and start driving.
