Get a $50 Hilton Caribbean Hotel Credit Just For Becoming a Facebook Fan

If you're obsessed with finding new places for hotel deals (and let's face it, aren't we all?) then consider joining Facebook and Twitter to follow hotels for special deals. Like this one we just learned about from Hilton Hotels in the Caribbean.
Simply become a fan of a Hilton Caribbean hotel and download a $50 resort credit which is then redeemable at check-in. You can find a list of the hotels here. The hotels include Hilton Barbados, Caribe Hilton, Hilton Curacao, Hilton Kingston Jamaica and the British Colonial Hilton Nassau.
Unfortunately, you just missed your chance to catch the Jonas Brothers who were recently shacked up at the Hilton Santo Domingo which was swarmed by rabid teenage girls. Might be best to give that hotel some time to recover.
After becoming a fan, go to the hotel's BOXES tab. There you will see the resort credit which you can print out. Just remember you must book a minimum 2-night stay and only one coupon per room can be used. The offer is good through January 2010 and cannot be combined with other promotions or offers.

Langham And Hyatt Starting Caribbean Stampede With New Resorts

Do we need more hotels in the Caribbean? Langham and Hyatt obviously think the answer is yes, because our in-box was filled up with info about their new Caribbean hotels this week.
In Port St George in the Bahamas, the Langham gang are planning the Langham Place Resort & Spa Port St George as part of their plans to triple the number of Langham properties within the next three years. It's their first entrance into the Caribbean market but if they're going to reach that tripling goal, we can guess it won't be the last. The 224-room resort is due to open in 2013 and will be part of a fancy new marina development.

Ritz-Carlton Doing Fall Deals All Over Caribbean And Mexico

The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman
Fall is the time to head to the Caribbean or Mexico if you're thinking of getting a good price for a Ritz-Carlton resort: they've gone quite made with four-for-three specials all over the region.
We're daydreaming about spending a lot more than four nights at one of these places, but if you're pushed for time and wanting to save some dollars too, then you could try four nights for the price of three at the Ritz-Carlton Cancun, with rates from $269 per night. The same deal applies at the Ritz-Carlton San Juan (from $199 a night), the Ritz-Carlton St Thomas ($279 a night) and the Ritz-Carlton Golf & Spa Resort Rose Hall in Jamaica (from $169 a night).

Get Your Vitamin D Fix at St. Kitts Marriott For $79 A Night

Sometimes, there are perks for proximity. St. Kitts Marriott & The Royal Beach Casino likes to think so. Right now, several east coast cities are offering non-stop flights to the British West Indies beachfront destination. To sweeten the deal, the hotel is offering residents of North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and the Tri-State (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) area a rock-bottom "Resident’s Rate" of $79 per night.
The only catch – you must book a three-night stay which is totals $237 plus tax. Convenient travel logistics plus pocketbook friendly rates make for impromptu island getaways, so start packing your flip-flops, SPF and bathing suits.

The Wyndham Sugar Bay Slashes Rates

A taste of the views around the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort and Spa
Kayaking and sailing and snorkeling, oh my. These are but a handful of the standard "idyllic island getaway" activities being used to draw visitors to the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort and Spa, located in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The promise of blue lagoons, a secluded beach, diving expeditions, and passport-free travel also belong to this tourist tempting feed, in addition to the ballyhoo of a recently announced Fall Super Sale.

Obama Kicks It With World Leaders at Hyatt Regency Trinidad
This weekend, President Obama headed to the Caribbean islands of Trinidad & Tobago with a US delegation for the Fifth Summit of the Americas, and, as we know, he and his ginormous posse shacked up at the Hilton Trinidad, renting out the whole place for the weekend.
But the three-day summit itself was held over at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad, which HC commenter thirteenright, who has stayed at both the TT Hilton and the TT Hyatt, mentioned was "a much nicer hotel more suitable for this kind of thing" (we assume "this kind of thing" means hosting bigtime world leaders). The conference was a place for the western hemisphere's leaders to get together to discuss "the theme of securing our citizens' future by promoting Human Prosperity, Energy Security and Environmental Sustainability."
Rates in this posh 428-room property start at $159, and the place features a rooftop infinity pool, a 24-hour fitness center, a restaurant with gulf views, and a lobby lounge where someone important surely toasted to making progress in the world this weekend.

This Weekend, Obama Will Be Swimming at the Hilton Trinidad
Another day, another hotel fitness room in which President Obama can go work out. This weekend, while he's heading down to the Caribbean islands of Trinidad & Tobago with a 1,000-strong US delegation for the Fifth Summit of the Americas, the Prez will be shacking up at the Hilton Trinidad, all of whose 380 rooms have been reserved for him and his massive posse.
Hopefully, during the three-day summit which convenes the 34 "democratically elected leaders of the Western Hemisphere," Barack will have some precious alone time for paddling in their pool shaped like the island of Trinidad and hitting their squash and tennis courts. The Hilton itself is no stranger to hosting high-security guests, and in the past have made people like former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Britain's Prince of Wales and former South African President Nelson Mandela feel right at home. Here's hoping that the secret service has already scoped out the hotel's jogging track and fitness center; we wouldn't want Obama to have to spend an entire long island weekend cooped up in office chairs just because the rowing machine is broken.
Once the US delegation departs at the end of the summit on Sunday night, the Hilton will return to its normal, non-commander in chief duties, which focuses on offering regular vacationers like us the very same rooms starting at $169 a night.

Gansevoort Turks & Caicos is Open and Ready to Rock
Where: Grace Bay, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos
While deals for the Gansevoort South in Miami continue to roll out and NYC's original Gansevoort wages war with The Standard, down in the Turks & Caicos, everything is sunny and shiny. This last weekend, the newest Gansevoort debuted on the island of Providenciales, bringing with it an Exhale Spa and the NY restaurant Bagatelle.
For once, we did not have to deal with construction delays and the usual hotel drama that comes with adapting a New York property, as the Gansevoort Turks & Caicos said they'd be opening in March 2009, and stuck to their word. Of course, it's not a ginormous property to deal with; the G-Vort circles its 91 rooms around the 7,000 square-foot, infinity-edged central pool and its "lounging islands." Although they boast of this pool, fear not for they will have the requisite beach access as well. As the resort sits on Grace Bay, you'll have the choice of a dip in the pool or a frolick at "Bagatelle Beach."

Four Seasons Nevis Opening Gets Delayed

We've warned before about springing for trip cancellation insurance if you vacation at the Four Seasons Nevis and our tip turned out to be right on the money: the resort has been closed since October 2008 after Hurricane Omar stormed through.
Damage assessments and inspections have had quite a few delays and now, for the third time, the Four Seasons Nevis has pushed back its re-opening date. Now they're talking November 1, 2009, more than a year after they shut up shop. This date seems more confident than the previous predictions though and bookings are open from that date on.
Apparently this single resort usually accounts for 70% of tourism spending on Nevis so the local economy is suffering badly; until now, they haven't laid off workers but say they might have to do so temporarily over the summer. If you want to take an economy-boosting vacation there next winter, rates are currently being quoted at $525 a night; we guess there'll be some please-come-back packages released closer to the time.

"Forget It All" at Hermitage Bay Antigua

Imagine with us for a moment that someone, somewhere, has just come into a nice pile of cash. We’re talking in the neighborhood of several Gs — not enough to buy a house or condo, mind you, but just enough to make those sad stock options look more than unappealing.
Might we suggest one idea, dear sir or madam, for blowing that wad of cash: a “forget-it-all” vacation at Hermitage Bay Antigua. On Conde Nast Traveler’s 2008 Hot List, the all-inclusive luxury resort is offering beach cottage suites for $1,200 a night for double occupancy (and that’s not even counting the 10 percent government tax and 10 percent service charge). This is apparently a special price, too, so hey, what a deal.

Hotel Gansevoort Heading to Turks & Caicos in Early 2009
Where: Turks and Caicos
Can't nothing stop the Gansevoort train, even in this economy. In addition to their other properties under development on Park Avenue, in Toronto and in Chicago, The Gansevoort Hotel Group has just announced plans for a property in the Turks & Caicos Islands. The 91-room beachfront hideaway is scheduled to debut in March 2009 (so soon!), a full two years before Toronto and Chicago will see any action. (Ed. Note: Chicago? When did this happen?)
Situated on Grace Bay in the North Caicos Islands, the resort is planning on rates beginning at $450 a night, including (hallelujah) FREE WIFI!. Of course this means the Miami scene (which is essentially the New York scene) can now move even further south for the winter while retaining regular access to elliptical machines and heavy French butter sauces.

Trade In Your Almost Worthless Stocks for a Beach Vacation

The Palm Island Resort in the Grenadines.
Wanna get rid of your flailing stocks and actually get something in return? The NY Times reports that a resort in the Caribbean is offering guests stays at their hotels in exchange for stock. Seriously!
Elite Island Resorts, a chain of upscale hotels — including the St. James’s Club on Antigua and the Palm Island Resort in the Grenadines — announced Friday that it would accept payments in stock for vacations booked by Jan. 31, using the value the stock was trading at on July 1. The deal, in effect, gives travelers a chance to roll back the value of currently depressed stocks to levels before the market began to really sink.
Of course you can't just pass off any ole' stock. The Elite Resorts company has a list of 100 "preferred stocks" listed here. Not on this list? Lehman Brothers. But Merrill Lynch did make the cut.
The company is also limiting the maximum credit in stocks to $5,000. If your trip costs more than that, it will be charged to a credit card. But the good thing that some of the Elite Resorts are all-inclusive, meaning your crappy stock will take care of everything from start to finish. This is one trend that we wouldn't mind more and more hotels copying.
