Cubicle Dreamin': Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Banff National Park
Cubicle Dreamin' is a feature in which we ask the hotel mavens to take some time out of their busy work day, surf the Internet, and tell us what hotel they wish they could beam themselves to right that very second--all on the slave driving companies dime, of course. Oh, like these people aren't surfing aimlessly anyway--at least now their purposeless clicking will be cobbled together into useful hotel stories--we hope. Have a destination hotel you are just dying to leave your cube for? Send the story our way.
In this episode, Hotel Maven BarbaraB heads to Canada. Enjoy.

When people used to tell me they were going to the Canadian Rockies, I was all yawns. Something snapped recently when I set eyes on a photograph of the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada. The lake is an incongruous turquoise. In the background looms Victoria Glacier; surrounding the lake are those mountains, endless mountains. In the foreground, sits the hotel, a charmingly asymmetrical chateau-style structure.
I'd reserve a Deluxe Lakeview Room with two queen beds. I'd need two, because for this one, I'd definitely bring my son. The Boy, who's ten, is just wild for wildlife. The hotel is set in Banf National Park, in an area that also happens to be a United Nations World Heritage site. There's not much else to do in the surrounding environs but partake in the Great Outdoors.

Hotel Dominion Takes Care of You After a Night on the Town

For some reason, Quebec City was always high on our Spring Break destinations list. It's certainly not warm in March, and it's not exactly sun-drenched but it just seems so cool. The fact that we'd be spending Canadian instead of Euros always held a little cachet, too. If we ever get around to taking a Spring Break, we might check out the Hotel Dominion 1912, in the heart of the city.
What makes the Dominion such a winner for Spring Breakers?
The rooms are large and the really comfy bed was king sized- the little extras like coffee machine, Bosch music system, well stocked mini bar, (Tylenol- great idea for a weary traveller - we aren't allowed to do that in Australia!), and the Aveda products. Really nice decor, both in rooms and in the bar/fireplace area.
There's nothing like the hair of the dog for the day after. (Not that we'd recommend gobbling Tylenol, but hey, we wouldn't recommend a lot of the stuff that happens on Spring Break.) Once we're back on our feet, you'll find us in the lobby, curled up in front of the fire.
