It's not too late to head down under and soak up some rays while the rest of your friends are freezing their patooties off back at home. Nothing says summer like enjoying some ice cold beers while overlooking one of Australia's most iconic beaches, Bondi. The Swiss Grand Hotel, in Sydney's north side, is hosting a pop-up bar filled with summer goodies for guests to relax and watch the happenings of Bondi Beach.
The Accor resort has opened a bar on its, aptly named, Bondi Deck featuring buckets of beer, jugs of freshly mixed cocktails. Even the nibbles menu screams summer with handmade burgers and buckets of fresh prawns.
Just over the road from the sand and surf of Bondi, the resort boasts killer views of the Pacific and everyone who calls it their playground. The pop-up bar will serve up summer sippers and seafood until March 31st and will be open until 10pm everyday of the week. With plenty of restaurants on the Campbell Parade, there won't be a shortage of fun after they call it a night.
Sydney-siders will know that the future of the Swiss Grand Hotel Bondi Beach is a little uncertain at the moment: developers want to soften the famous "wedding cake facade" and turn the interior into a combination (smaller) boutique hotel and residential apartments. But since the council hasn't decided yet, any change is a long way off.
Just the same, there's been a flood of journos reviewing the Swiss Grand, which perhaps hopes to remind people you can still stay there. A recent Sydney Morning Herald review spoke of all the good sides to the Swiss Grand, the best of which is of course the view over Bondi Beach.
It's not in Switzerland, and some say it's not even very grand, but the Swiss Grand Resort & Spa Bondi Beach does have the best location at Sydney's world famous beach. Without knowing it, you've surely seen pictures of the Swiss Grand because it truly is the backdrop to Bondi.MORE
Busiest bar in Bondi, models hanging out in the lobby, and most importantly a glorious view of Bondi Beach from 14 of the 16 seaside rooms--that's Ravesi's Hotel at Bondi Beach. The sea view rooms come complete with tall arched windows that open to the beach. Well, sort of. The beach is across the street. Ravesi is part seaside motel, part boutique hotel and guests tend to love it or hate it. Those that pan the place, usually mention poor service, and those that love it mention style, location, and private balconies overlooking Bondi--sounds par for the course for a trendy boutique hotel.
Back in HotelChatter's younger days, before our days were consumed with web musings, we use to take that blue bus you see in the above view photo from Sydney's Central Station to Bondi (a transfer happened somewhere along the way), do the cliff walk from Bondi to Bronte, lounge a bit, walk back to Bondi, and hit Fishmonger's up for some killer fish and chips. Ravesi did not exist during those days, but we can imagine a stop at Ravesi fitting into our Bondi routine quite nicely.
Oh, what? You didn't ask? Fine. Bonus photo of the Ravesi lobby post break, since you took the time to listen.
