These days everyone is looking for four bar, non-complicated, hotel WiFi when they check in. Sure there are a bunch of hotel WiFi lists out there, but they are quickly out of date and unreliable. This week, as a lead up to our popular annual hotel WiFi report, we will let you know our favorite WiFi hotels in five hot travel destinations. The rules are simple. The signal has to fast, and reliable, the cost should be free (at the very least free for guests) and the WiFi experience at these hotels offer a comfortable surfing environment. Have a city or destination you want us to investigate? Let us know. And if you have a favorite WiFi hotel you are willing to share, no matter where it is send it our way.

W Union Square:: New York City, NY

Bravo W Hotels it took you a couple years, but it looks like you got hotel wireless right, eventually. We remember a time when you wanted us to call your lobbies living rooms and we scoffed. Well guess what? We get it now. W Union Square might just be the perfect wireless lobby. The four bar signal is strong, there are no sign up screens, and there are just enough chairs and tables for a limited amount of people to quickly work in a virtual way. The best part? Because of the set up there is a constantly shifting cast of hard working characters in the lobby living room and no one is abusing the system.

Best Part:
This hotel has the perfect layout for free WiFi. There are two lobbies (sort of), separated by stairs, and the downstairs lobby lends itself perfectly to business wireless activity. Sales pitches, job interviews, and venture capital meetings all happened while we were getting some work done in this made-for-free WiFi lobby. Oh, and coffee is served from a nearby bar.

The  Bowery Hotel :: New York, NY

The Bowery Hotel is one of the newest hotels in New York and one with a lot of buzz. Say what you will about the location, the knife fights and the homeless man/stereo salesman, the hotel has free, fast, working wireless. A friend of HotelChatter recently stayed there and said signing on was easy--just find the Bowery Hotel network and you're good to go.

Best Part:
Naturally, being a hot hotel like the Bowery means you as a guest might be able to witness some celeb events like this Chanel Dinner that was attended by Sarah Michelle Gellar. If you're not into celebs and prefer to hole up in your room, then the giant factory windows like the one above should making doing work not feel so work-y.

Also with the exception of the Tribeca Film Festival this week and next, rooms at the Bowery are nowhere near Schrager prices ($550 and up) with a queen room available for $375.

Best Hotel WiFi Spot: The Raleigh Miami

The Raleigh Hotel :: Miami Beach, FL

Miami is pretty much all about partying with as little clothes on as possible so it's not really the place to go do work. Thus internet access is not a top priority when you've got more important things to do like tanning, drinking, reapplying tanning oil and clubbing.

But when we hit up the The Raleigh Hotel we discovered that this Andre Balazs Hotel has property-wide free WiFi, meaning that we could still be by the pool tanning and drinking while cruising the internet. Yes, you have to be a guest, or at least know the free access code to access the network, but that makes sense at a scene hotel like the Raleigh.

Best Part:
The signal worked everywhere. up in our room, down in the lobby, outside by the pool--it even stretched out onto the beach--not like you can actually see your screen through the suns glare on the beach, but it is still cool.

Best Hotel WiFi Spot: W San Francisco

W Hotel :: San  Francisco, CA

We've said it before and we'll say it again. The W San Francisco gave us one of the best hotel WiFi experiences we've had in this city by the bay. Don't get us wrong. San Fran's seemingly thousands of hotels do a pretty good job of offering guests free and working internet access. However, there's always some sort of catch.

The Hotel Adagio had free wifi but the lobby was incredibly small. Personality Hotels also has it but when we tried to take our laptops into the Hotel Diva lounges and the lobby, it wouldn't work so well. Even the city's green hotel, Orchard Garden Hotel, has free WiFi but again, no place outside your room to use it.

Best Part:
Aside from getting free WiFi in a W hotel, which like never happens, we love the laid-back, spacious (it's got two levels) and quiet lobby with couches and available outlets. So we can get some work done before heading off to the excellent tapas restaurant across the street, the Thirsty Bear. The hotel is also close to the MOMA but beware, the lobby does become sort of a hotspot at night so get your work done before night falls.

Best Hotel WiFi Spot: Sunset Tower Hotel

Sunset Tower Hotel :: Los Angeles, CA

Jeff Klein's West Coast Hotel, the Sunset Tower, is our pick for Los Angeles for several reasons. The first being that it's the one hip hotel on Sunset where the WiFi is actually free. The Riot Hyatt, the Standard, the Chateau Marmont and the Mondrian all charge at least $10 a day. The Best Western next door is free but c'mon it's a Best Western.

Best Part:
Actually, there are very few cool hotels in LA where you can get free WiFi. The Hotel Angeleno stepped up to the plate when it opened last year but its location next to the 405 freeway is less than desirable. And the Hollywood Roosevelt reportedly has good free WiFi. Yet we like the low-key vibe at Sunset Tower the best. You can log on (free of codes or a pesky sign-in page) and peruse your favorite gossip sites while checking out Jennifer Aniston or Renee Zellweger on a date in the hotel's restaurant. Also, when we checked out the WiFi situation the staff was knowledgeable and friendly, offering to print out anything we needed.

Now if only Klein could branch out past the Sunset Tower and its New York sister, City Club.

Best Hotel WiFi Spots: Boston Harbor Hotel

Boston Harbor Hotel :: Boston, MA

The hotel WiFi stereotype says that the nicer the hotel the worse the wireless Internet situation, but that is not the case at the Boston Harbor Hotel. Not only can you get free, fast, four bar wireless access in any of the hotels common areas, but you can also access the web without jumping through hoops, checkboxes, and sign ups. This hotel is a WiFi throwback, just turn on your computer and you immediately gain access to the Boston Harbor Hotel free WiFi network and it is your set homepage that comes up--not some hotel intranet upsell portal. Sweet simplicity. Furthermore, on a nice day you can sit outside and watch the boats come into Boston Harbor, all while checking your email.

Best Part:
Boston Harbor Hotel is located directly on the harbor, between the new, stale, InterContinental Boston, where WiFi access will run you $15.00 for 24 hours, and the Long Wharf Marriott, where WiFi access will cost you $9.99. The ironic part? The Boston Harbor Hotel is hands down the best all around stay experience of the three, as well as the best place to enjoy free WiFi.
