We love hotel renovations nearly just as much as we love new hotels. But what we really love about hotel renovations is seeing the transformation that happens when an old, tired and lackluster room gets a modern makeover and transforms into new, spiffed-up, stylish guest room. Or put more simply, we love comparing the Before and After.

Almost immediately since it opened in 2010, the Gansevoort Park Avenue attracted the glam crowd of both film and fashion. The Gansevoort has had it all from the get go--seductive interiors, a close-to-everything Midtown location with killer city views, and a nightlife that starts and ends on the rooftop. But maybe the rooftop was getting a little too much play as the hotel has now totally revamped their top floor space.

Here's how the rooftop looked before the renovation. Keep reading to see what it looks like now!

Or put more simply, we love comparing the Before and After.

Sixty Soho, formerly known as 60 Thompson, is the flagship of the newly formed Sixty Hotels collective from the original Thompson Hotels founders, led by Jason Pomeranc. But now that the hotel is no longer a Thompson, it was time to change up the look.

So Sixty enlisted Tara Bernerd & Partners, a London-based interior architecture and design to six, er, sex up the 97-guestrooms as well as the lobby and lobby bar. Here's what the rooms at 60 Thompson used to look like. Keep reading to see the new and improved Sixty Soho...

The weather is getting cooler but the hotel scene in Miami is getting hotter. We already told you about five new hotels to look for this winter but here's one you can check out as soon as next week--The Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach.

We first heard about The Shelborne closing for much-neededrenovations back in May 2013. A HotelChatter contributor had stayed at the property only months before and had this to say about the rooms:

The Shelborne's suite had last been furnished in the early 1990s, the dining chairs were broken, the mattress was so old you could feel the springs, the tables were scratched and water-damaged, the art was like that of a greasy strip mall generic Asian restaurant, the floors felt so dusty we were relieved to have brought slippers from our last hotel, and the power outlet actually shocked us as we tried to plug in our phone charger. Firetrap much?

Above is how the hotel rooms used to look. Keep reading to see the transformation!

As new hotels continue to open up across the city of Denver, the Hotel Teatro is not letting the new kids in town steal the entire spotlight.

This month, the hotel showed off its recently transformed common areas, including a brand new lobby and restaurant concept. The changes keep the marble and architectural detail of the original 1911 building, but definitely inject a sense of modernism. Let's take a look inside with some before and after photos:

Hotel Okura might be preparing itself for a multi-year closure–demolition–redevelopment cycle next year (if the Monocle petition to keep it won’t throw a spanner in the works), but another iconic Tokyo hotel will have shrugged when they read that news and thought: been there, done that, way ahead of you.

Above is what Palace Hotel Tokyo looked like in late 2008, presiding over its own moat in its second incarnation, after starting life as the government-run Hotel Teito just after WWII. The following year it closed and reinvented itself over the span of three years into something worthy of the theme “Before and After” – check it out after the jump.

Above is how the Donovan House looked at the height of its Thompson times. Pretty standard, but still rico suave. Now, click below to see what the rooms look like today after a multi-million dollar renovation of all rooms and suites.

Ok. Let's be honest. The only good thing that we can say about this old room at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Long Beach, Calif. is that we're loving the Queen Mary outside the window. Everything else though, can go. And fortunately that's exactly what happened.

The Renaissance has just finished an $8 million renovation that upgraded each of the 374 guest rooms, including the 14 suites and the presidential suite, as well as the lobby, the Club Lounge and the fitness center. Work on the pool is set to begin soon.

Well, what are you waiting for? Take a look at how the rooms look now!

Or put more simply, we love comparing the Before and After.

We told you last year that Omni Hotels was taking over the King Edward Hotel in Toronto and would be spending $40 million on renovating the hotel, from guestrooms to the 17th floor Crystal Ballroom that has been closed since the 1970s. While its 20-foot ceilings and four-way skyline views will make for a dramatic addition to the hotel, we’ll start today with a look at the before and after of the guestrooms.

The move to Omni last year marked 110 years since the hotel first opened in 1903, so it’s probably no surprise the rooms had a rather classic feel, but how have they changed?

The Fess Parker, a laid-back Doubletree by HIlton resort in Santa Barbara, Calif., has just finished much-needed upgrade to their 360 guest rooms and suites and we're happy to report the renovation managed to keep the resort's chill vibe but in a thoroughly modern way .

This is what the guest rooms used to look like. Um, plaid much? While we do appreciate the modern amenities, like a flat-screen TV and rolling desk chair, the rest of the room is a bit of a turn-off. Fortunately, it's all been changed.

Before and After: Hotel Lucia Gets a Fresh New Look

Where: 400 SW Broadway [map], Portland, OR, United States

We love hotel renovations nearly just as much as we love new hotels. But what we really love about hotel renovations is seeing the transformation that happens when an old, tired and lackluster room gets a modern makeover and transforms into new, spiffed-up, stylish guest room. Or put more simply, we love comparing the Before and After.

Portland's Hotel Lucia opened in 2002 and has just undergone its very first renovation. "The original design was done so well and so well maintained," they tell us, "that is far outlived the normal shelf life for a hotel design".

Hmmm. We think that paint color and sofa outlived their shelf lives too.

Watch the old make way for the new after the jump.
