Nothing to Complain About Here at the Pacific Edge Hotel

We are suckers for a room with a killer view. We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty—yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. We will feature our favorites in this space from time to time. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number of the hot view.
What a pretty picture for a cool and dreary Thursday morning. (At least it is here in New York City.) Wouldn’t you give your right arm to be strolling on that sand, or sitting on the balcony gazing out at the Pacific? We probably would, but as it turns out, this killer view doesn’t have to come with a killer price tag. It’s not taken from the terrace of a five-star resort, but from the affordable Pacific Edge Hotel in Laguna Beach.

Now, Wouldn't This Be Loverly?
Ed. Note: Usually we do these feature on Thursdays but we couldn't get to it yesterday. Enjoy! We are suckers for a room with a killer view. Any hotel with the word Palais in it seems like a safe bet for a killer view and the Hotel du Palais in Biarritz, France does not disappoint. HotelChatter Flickr Pool member SehParks sent us this south-facing view of the pool and the beach. But if you can't get a south-facing room the western views are rather charming as well.
The room furnishings are palatial in the 1990s sense but the wireless internet is free. Room rates start at 425 Euros.

A Sneak Peek Inside Venice Beach's New Hotel Erwin

For a long time, Venice Beach has been lacking in providing a hip but upscale beachfront stay. The only choices were hostels or those luxe beachfront hotels in Santa Monica at $400+ a night. Sadly, some of us just don't have that kind of cash. Nor do we want that stuffy, big-box hotel experience. And you can forget about having us spend a night in a hostel.
Thankfully, JDV Hotels have taken over the old Marina Pacific Hotel in Venice at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Windward, giving us a hipper, happier, cleaner and more affordable place to stay on the beach. It's also got a new name: The Hotel Erwin.

The Malibu Beach Inn Keeps Things Simple

You don't have to be a billionaire to enjoy this view of the Malibu coastline. All you need to do is fork over $258 a night at the Malibu Beach Inn which is what we did when we went a-testing the hotel's fancy new iPhone guest management system.
This simple and soothing view of the water and rocks was from room 206 which has a private balcony and a fireplace inside in case you get chilly. Our only complaint would be that the balcony was quite close to the outdoor dining section below, meaning we could hear some conversations. But the ocean will help you tune all that out. Expect room rates to be a lot higher in the summer.

Boutique Hotels Jump The Shark; "Bungalow" To Open On Jersey Shore in 2009

Boutique hotels have finally made their way down to the Jersey Shore with Long Branch NJ's "Bungalow" currently under construction.
Bungalow probably won't open until Spring/Summer 2009 - but the plans call for a 24-room luxury hotel on the beach, a-la W Hotels. In fact, the developers of Bungalow are the same developers of the W Hotel Hoboken, and the design of the hotel will be contemporary luxury with attention being paid to the fact that it is a beachfront hotel.

Room With A Killer View: Al Cielo Hotel Beach View

Al Cielo is a four room rustic beach boutique hotel is right on Xpu-Ha Beach in Mexico's Riviera Maya. Many Xpu-Ha beach visitors don't hear about this place until they take stroll on the beach and see the view afforded to those lucky few who stay here. The most common comment from these Al Cielo oglers? "Next time we go to Mexico we are staying there".
Meanwhile, the folks who actually are staying in one of the four rustic beachfront rooms can't wait until the gawkers move along, so they can enjoy views uncluttered views like the one above from the comfort of their bed.

Where Those Beachy Corona Commercials Come From
Today we have another Part 2 story---video of the Las Alamandas Resort shot by Hotel Maven Tim Leffel, who has this to report:
This is one-minute virtual tour of upscale retreat Las Alamandas, on a deserted stretch of coast on the west coast of Mexico. From the palapa area where you can have breakfast or a sunset cocktail to the colorful pool with a lounging bed at each end. Grab a margarita and pretend you're a hot shot getting a break away from your busy schedule of shooting movies and signing autographs.
This just has to be the inspiration for those Corona commercials.

Keep The Paparazzi at Bay at Las Alamandas

While some bratty celebrities are making life miserable for the staff (giving us plenty of material each week), others just want to get away and not be bothered. For that, they come to a hideaway like Las Alamandas, on the west coast of Mexico.
Many of the guests who stay at Las Alamandas fly in on a private plane and land at the resort's own paved airstrip. Us mere mortals arrive via a leisurely two-hour drive south from the Puerto Vallarta airport, with the last few miles being over a rutted dirt road that entails dodging "free range" chickens, and then past a gate with a guard who takes his bouncer role very seriously.
More on Las Alamandas after the jump.
