Who Will Run The New Hotel Coming to San Fran's SOMA Nabe?

January 20, 2014 at 3:55 PM | by | ()

It's been a while but finally, a new hotel is coming to San Francisco's South of Market (SOMA) neighborhood on Channel Street between 3rd and 4th streets and one block away from AT&T Park where the Giants play ball. This will actually be a 15-story, four-star, full-service, "premium-branded" lifestyle hotel with 250 hotel rooms and built to LEED Gold standards.

The only question is--who's going to run it?

The property was acquired by SOMA Hotel LLC, a privately held hotel development company, which is an affiliate of the Stanford Hotels Group, a company with several big hotel brand names in their portfolio.

While we doubt the company will stray far from Hyatt Place, Marriott or Hilton, we kinda hope a cooler brand will go in here like a Virgin Hotel, or an SLS Hotel or even a Public Hotel.

With the project aiming to begin construction later this year (with an opening in 2016), hopefully we won't have to wonder much longer.

Got any insider info on which hotel brand will run this new building? Tip us off!

Watch The Padres From The Hotel Indigo's Parlor Suites

We are suckers for a room with a killer view.  We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty--yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. We will feature our favorites in this space from time to time. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number of the hot view.

When we hit up the Hotel Indigo San Diego last month, there was a party being held on the hotel's 9th floor Phi terrace where guests could sip on drinks, warm up near the fire pits (yes, it gets cold at night) and take in the ballgame going on over at Petco Park.

While nearly everyone can hit up the terrace for the views, only folks who book the hotel's parlor suites can get prime (and private) views from their bedrooms. An added treat? Fireworks go off after weekend night games--win or lose.

We checked the room rates next weekend when the Padres are playing at home and we found a king bedroom parlor suite for $329 a night. As always when booking a room for the killer view, make sure to call the hotel in person and request a ballpark view before you arrive or when you make your reservation. Sorry, personal bartender not included. That was only for the party!
