UPDATE: A flack from LaForce + Stevens PR agency is who repping this project says the name of the hotel is to be The Chelsea, not The Chelsea House.
Real-estate blogger Andrew Calvo over at Passions of a Zealot let us know of some excellent research he's done on the Atlantic City hotel scene.
It turns out the Holiday Inn and the Howard Johnson are closing down and that a brand-new boutique hotel called The Chelsea House will open in May 2008.
Calvo writes:
I did some research and found out why it is closing. A partnership named A.C. Beach Development Partners, LLC purchased the Holiday Inn & the neighboring Howard Johnson's for $36million earlier this year. The partnership intends to combine both properties into Atlantic City's first Boutique Hotel named "The Chelsea", it is scheduled to open in time for Memorial Day 2008 after a $93 million renovation.
An article in the Press of Atlantic City backs his research up and adds some more details such as the place will feature 337 luxury rooms with rates ranging from $200s to the $300s, a rooftop pool with private cabanas, a spa and two restaurants by Stephen Starr, the man behind NYC's Buddakan, Continental and Striped Bass restaurants.
As for the hotel name, no doubt it's trying to inject some Manhattan cool into AC (Soho House anyone?) but the street name is Chelsea Avenue and there's already a bed and breakfast down the street called The Chelsea. How about some originality people?
As promised here is the second half of our review of the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Since there is so much to write about, a single post won't cover it all. Thus, we have broken up our review into different sections, assigning each a special page. Choose from one of these:
That last one is a bit random but since we are pretty big on hotel internet access we decided to vote some extra time to our experience. So click around these special pages and let us know what you think or if you have any questions about staying at the Borgata.
We recently spent two days inside the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The key word here is "inside." We did not breathe anything but casino-manufactured oxygen for two days straight. And anyways, it was probably cleaner than the air outside in New Jersey. That said, we have got the scoop and more on staying here.
Today, we are bringing you a short and sweet review. Just the basics of checking into the hotel and what our room had to offer. But tomorrow, we'll report on all the other things you can do at the Borgata when you aren't in your hotel room. So stay tuned and enjoy.
Looks like the Tropicana Resort in Atlantic City is getting in on the boutique hotel game. The hotel has plans for a two-acre luxury hotel to be connected by an enclosed bridge that would go up next to the Boardwalk.
The proposed hotel could have as many as 500 rooms and give Tropicana, which leads the resort's 11 casinos in hotel rooms with 2,129, a boost as its archrival - the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa - prepares to open a $400 million, 800-room hotel tower later this year.
Think of it like a THEhotel or a West Wing but in Jersey and with less hot-looking people.
Maybe 2007 is the year for romance, the year for true love, the year to say "I do" with total strangers at the Tropicana in Atlantic City...wait, what?
While most little girls don't dream about their big day being a) on Valentine's Day b) with hundreds of complete strangers or c) in Atlantic City, group weddings seem to be a trend that just isn't going away.
On February 14, 2007, the Tropicana Casino & Resort will welcome brides and grooms from all over to their Atlantic city hotel to tie the knot and feast on cake. At exactly 2pm...the vows will begin as men and women ditch the church aisle for a spot at this mass ceremony, which will be officiated by the city's Mayor Robert Levy.
And each newlywed gets a gift (sort of) compliments of the hotel:
Each couple that participates will be entered to win an extravagant honeymoon package, which will include accommodations, a romantic dinner for two, a decadent dessert and a treatment at the Bluemercury spa.
So if your are a bride who doesn't need to be the only woman in white or you want to renew your vows without the kids...this could be your best Valentine's Day ever.
