After four years of operating as a 3-star hotel the Phoenix Clarendon has announced not only its new membership in Luxe Worldwide Hotels, but its plan to obtain 4-star perfection. Looks like Ben Bethel's plans for the hotel are finally coming to fruition.
At the end of the month the Clarendon will up the ante by adding 50 new guest rooms and opening a casual Asian-fusion restaurant. In October they will unveil a new pool that will be a welcome oasis in the middle of the southwest desert and features multiple fountains, hand-laid mosaic and gold inlay.
By 2008 there will be new heating and cooling systems, granite showers and even an exclusive ultra-luxe Turkish micro-spa.
And we suspect, a new 4-star rating to match.

No doubt about it, Phoenix-Scottsdale's a serious gamble come summer, with average monthly highs around 100 degrees and the occasional record-breaker day of 115 or even higher. You might get stuck inside air-conditioned rooms all day. Or, for fun, try to fry an egg on the hood of your rental car.
To offset the risks associated with traveling in such searing heat, area resorts are dangling off-season specials like oh-so-many chili pepper strands.
The Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa has launched podcasts for its hotel guests (past, present and future) that detail the amenities and experiences awaiting them at the resort. Six podcasts have been created ranging from a "conversation" with the chef and winemaker of the Frog Leap Restauranta to a history lesson of the hotel to a look at the treatments offered in the spa.
"Through our podcasts, we can connect with the affluent, tech-savvy consumers of today who are looking to enjoy the finer things in life," said General Manager Sean Maddock. "Podcasts allow us to differentiate and personalize the resort, while informing guests of all the wonderful amenities and experiences awaiting them at the Arizona Biltmore."
Wow, what will hotels think of next? If you're interested you can download the podcasts through the hotel website or iTunes and listen to them on your iPod or computer. And we just remembered the Arizona Biltmore is managed by Hilton Hotels and is actually a member of their Waldorf-Astoria Collection. Could the Waldorf blog or podcast be far behind?

According to plenty of hit or miss celebrity dailies, Britney Spears checked into Sanctuary @ Camelback Mountain on New Years Day to recover from the "exhaustion" caused end of 2006 antics that we are all too familiar with.
Sanctuary is luxe spa hotel which accommodates both hotel guests and local resident members. Sometimes these two groups end up fighting like the Hatfield's and the McCoy's (usual arguments: locals think they own the place, those from away act better than the locals--blah, blah, blah). What both groups agree on are that the facials and other spa treatments offered here are amongst the best in the biz.
Oh, and one recent negative review from a tipster that came in over the holidays is sure not to bother Britney:
They only had one private dressing room which I would be using because I am a modest person and don't typically walk around naked in public with strangers.
That was far too easy.
