Hang With Andy Warhol at the InterContinental Miami

We never pictured Warhol as an InterContinental type (perhaps more of a Jane/Bowery/Gramercy Park Hotel denizen or even a St. Regis dude). But we were wrong because the superstar is checking into the Intercontinental Hotel Miami from November 30 through January 1.
Yep, we're following up yesterday's initial list of Art Basel Miami Beach hotel happenings with a standalone item today—because, well, it's Andy Warhol, people. And thanks to Andy, we're all of a sudden looking at the IC Miami through a much cooler lens.
The hotel has been a fixture downtown for 25 years and is on the receiving end of some new renovations.

See Andy Warhol in Paris Courtesy of Concorde Hotels

Now that airline ticket prices are dropping and the dollar is finally gaining (a little) ground against the Euro, forget that lame “staycation” you’ve been planning (we know you were only going to sunbathe in your own backyard anyway), and head to Paris this spring to see the “Andy Warhol’s Wide World” exhibit at the Grand Palais with a special package from Concorde Hotels.

Thompson LES Might Open Today; We Dig the Pool Anyway

We can't be sure that the Thompson LES is actually going to open today--that would be too much of a "boy who cried wolf" kinda thing. But their website is now showing availability for this Thursday July 31, which is four days sooner than our last attempt.
Whenever the exact day is, the Thompson LES is obviously going to (finally) open in the very near future. And when it does, we are especially keen to try the pool. They decided to throw a few images of Andy Warhol on the bottom of it (apparently the technical term is that they've photolithographed him on). Probably the effect is totally lost up close with chlorine-soaked eyes or fogged-up goggles, but the idea appeals to us.
Of course, if the hotel does open today we know Thompson all too well to know that the pool won't actually open until much later. We just hope that when it does, breast-stroking over Andy is free.
Opening rates still look like going at $299 for Queen rooms plus $40 in taxes.
