The Algonquin Hotel Loves An American Girl, Raised on Promises
July 11, 2008 at 9:45 AM | 0 Comments
If you have a precocious young lady in your life who is currently swooning over the movie Kit Kitteridge: American Girl, surprise her with a stay at New York's famous Algonquin Hotel, where they've just put together an "Algonquin Girl" package.
Treat your burgeoning reporter girl to this girl-power special, which includes a $30 gift certificate to The American Girl store (which has its own extensive movie promotional vehicle under way), a diary (to encourage handwritten thoughts -- how very 20th century), and your choice of two tickets to either a Broadway show or a baseball game.
The Algonquin is the right location for this package, seeing as how the hotel's famed Round Table was made up of writers of all styles -- poets, essayists, humorists, screenwriters, critics, and sportswriters (read more about them all here).
One night packages start at $394 per person double occupancy, a pittance compared to your little lady's squeals of delight when she finds out she's the star.

American Girl Check-In at the Barclay Intercontinental
September 6, 2007 at 8:55 AM | 0 Comments

The Barclay Intercontinental is not just a hotel for U.S. Open players. It's also a hotel for American Girl enthusiasts--namely girls ages 6 to whenever playing with dolls isn't cool anymore.
The hotel has a special check-in set up for you American Girl doll. The one you see here is Kaya, "a Nez Perce girl growing up in 1764."(Note: We played with American Girl dolls when the brand was called Pleasant Company and there were only three dolls--Samantha, Molly and Kirsten. We also had to order only from catalogs. This was before the internet people! Ok TMI.)
The Barclay, which bill itself as a business hotel, has cashed in on the craze for American Girls with their American Girl Place package (around $383 a night) which includes in-room munchies, a complimentary in-room movie, a doll bed (just for the night), and of course, the special check-in. Also your American Girl fan under the age of 12 gets to eat free in the hotel restaurant. Oh and did we mention the American Girl Place store is just a block away?
You can eat lunch there but it's $23 a person so in a sense, the Barclay is a deal. You are going to need your pennies after all to buy some of that American Girl gear.

Omni Hotel Likes American Girls

American Girl is practically the new Barbie.
If you are not up to speed on the doll world, let us break it down for you quickly. Each American Girl is from a different decade in American history: Samantha is rich girl enjoying the Victorian era; Molly is a feisty little girl growing up as WWII is going on; Kirsten is an Swedish immigrant whose family pioneers the plains of Minnesota in the mid 1850s.
Substantially larger than Barbie (and less slutty), each girl has her own set of historically accurate outfits, toys, beds, and etc. They cost over $100 and are sold at the American Girl Places in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.
So capitalizing on the frenzy that the American Girl Place in LA's The Grove shopping center has caused since its recent opening, Omni Los Angeles is offering the "American Girl Package" from $239 per night.
The deal includes a room overlooking downtown LA, American Girl products and amenities, a $25 gift certificate, an in-room "American Girl" bed for dolls, hot-fudge sundae for two, American Girl magazine, breakfast for two, and complimentary valet parking.
But the hotel is located downtown whereas the Grove is located in the Miracle Mile/Fairfax district, so plan out your car situation beforehand.
Or if you book the extreme American Girl package for $899, roundtrip transpo is included along with a junior suite, and a $200 gift certificate.
