With all the hullabaloo about the significance of Lucky Number 8 and the opening of the Olympic Games on 8-8-08 at 8pm, little surprise then that Hyatt's Olive 8 Hotel in Seattle is rolling out three new packages with Eight as the backbone. However, there is something a little different about this hotel than the others that have 8-8-08 deals---it's not open yet.

The hotel is expected to open in December but they still are trying to take advantage of the 8 date by offering three packages for people to use when the hotel does finally open.

Loyalty Program News: 888 Bonus Starpoints From SPG

Mattress runners: get your suitcases ready. 8-08-08 is coming up this Friday and even Starwood Hotels is getting in on the hoopla by offering its SPG members 888 bonus Starpoints.

Starting August 1st and running for eight days, guests can register to receive 888 bonus Starpoints at participating Starwood properties for qualifying stays. Qualifying stays include Friday and Saturday arrivals, August 2 - September 27, 2008.

That's a whole lotta Starpoints. The only other catch is you must be a member of the SPG program (duh) and you must register for the 888 promotion here.

Starwood's attempt at world domination continues next Friday, August 8th, with the opening party for Aloft Philadelphia Airport. Just to make sure this debut gets all the attention it can, Starwood has brought out the big guns: an appearance by Philadelphia's own DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Really, how can you miss that? (Well, you will, if you haven't been invited.) Pennsylvania-born model Beth Ostrosky, P.A. Governor Edward Rendell and Philly Mayor Michael Nutter also are expected to attend.

Super 8's Super 8-8-08 Deal for $8.88

How could Super 8 not get in on the whole 8-8-08 hotel deals trend? And unlike some other hotel deals we've seen as of late, this one makes us giddy.

The motel chain is selling rooms for $8.88 a night starting on August 8, 2008. And here's some hotel trivia for you: That was the rate price for the first Super 8 hotel that opened back in 1974.

However, this is not a free-for-all. The rate is only available to 800 people for only eight days.

The special sale, which will begin at 8 p.m. EDT on each of the eight days, will continue until the 800-room daily allocation is exhausted. The $8.88 rate, which does not include fees and taxes, may be used to book rooms at Super 8 hotels in the United States and Canada for stays through Dec. 30, 2008.

You can find more about the promotion here. So get your alarms set for August 8 if you are serious about scoring a deal. We've actually never stayed in a Super 8 before but we would do it just to pay our room bill with a crisp $10 bill.

8.8.08 Deals :: Wyndham Nassau's $8 Wednesday Rate

Much like last year when hotels took advantage of the 07/07/07 date to create themed packages, a few places are doing the same thing for 08/08/08.

One place is The Wyndham Nassau Resort and Crystal Palace Casino in the Bahamas which is offering a special $8 room rate on Wednesdays during the month of August.

Of course, you can't just decide to stay there on a Wednesday night in August for $8. This isn't a flophouse. Nope. Guests have to book a four-night minimum stay over a Wednesday. Rates start at $149 a night and the deal must be booked by July 31 for stays through August 30.

So it's a bit of a hoopla to get the $8 rate but still, we think it would be kinda cool to see that on your check-out bill.

Just when we thought the hoopla of the Lucky Seven (07/07/07) mania had been put to bed for good, we are pointed to a press release that lets us know there are still many more of these special dates to come. Like 08/08/08.
