Fairmont Pacific Rim Encouraging Olympics Guests to Drink Tap Water

We're not sure we've ever seen a hotel steer guests away from buying bottled water from the hotel mini-bar but we like it. The brand-new Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver has begun selling a stainless-steel portable water container with the Fairmont logo in the mini-bar with a little tag attached that says "Free Refills."
The goal is to get guests to buy the container and use the city's tap water to fill up instead of buying plastic water bottles, much to the dismay of Olympics sponsor, Coca-Cola who will be selling their Dasani water bottles all over town.

The Loden Vancouver Still Has Pricey Rooms Open During The Olympics

The planned cruise ship hotel idea that would house folks coming to Vancouver for the Winter Olympics may have sunk but the Loden Vancouver Hotel, recently voted the #1 Luxury Hotel in Canada by TripAdvisor readers, let us know that they still have rooms available during the games.
But as usual, these prices are incredibly high and there isn't any availability for the start of the games.
We actually found rooms a little lower at the tail-end of the games from February 19 to 22 from $799 CAD a night for a Loden Signature King. A Loden one-bedroom suite was going for $2,200 a night. The hotel also has some availability on February 15 and 16 but only with the one-bedroom suite, again for $2,200 a night.
Still, if you need a hotel and you don't mind paying thousands of dollars for one, then the Loden might be for you.

The Opus Hotel Might Just Be the Perfect Post-Games Spot in Vancouver
Play "Spot the Celebrity" at Opus Hotel's Elixir Bistro.
You may be out of luck if you're trying to find a vacant hotel in Vancouver during the Olympics, but that doesn't mean you can't party at a hotel. Head to the Opus Hotel in Vancouver’s popular Yaletown ’hood to be in the middle of the post-Games party scene.
If you are looking for stars, plant yourself at the hotel’s Elixir Bistro. Jennifer Aniston and Bradley Cooper both hung in the hotel restaurant when they were recently in town filming, so it’s likely you’ll see other big names here.

Got $3,000? Then You Got Yourself a Hotel Room in Whistler for the Winter Olympics
How do you say Daddy Warbucks in Canadian?
February is going to be a busy month for sports fans. First Super Bowl, and then The 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
However, while everyone's favorite winter olympics sport--figure skating--takes place in Vancouver, much of the ski and snow sports take place up in Whistler, where the ski hotel and lodges have rapidly filled up.
Or have they?
The Fairmont Chateau Whistler put out a press release yesterday titled, "Rumors Quashed - Fairmont Chateau Whislter Says There are Still Rooms for the Olympics." The release then went on to say that rooms are still available for select dates from February 11 to 28. However, a three-night minimum is required and you have to pay up front.
Still, this is good news. The hotel is right at the base of Blackcomb Mountain (close to the action) and has a great sitting room overlooking the mountains. Plus there's a nightly fondue event in the hotel's Chalet.

Kimpton is Giving Canadian Olympic 'Refugees' Special Rates, Eh?
Hotel Vintage Park
Kimpton Hotels' Seattle properties will come to the rescue of its neighbors to the north whose city will be inundated with tourists coming to see the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Hotel Vintage Park, the Alexis Hotel and Hotel Monaco will offer an Escape the Olympics package to aid those in need of a getaway from the craziness.
In honor of the 2010 Games, the three Seattle hotels will offer a 20.10 percent discount to all Canucks. According to a Kimpton official, the company knows that since hotel rooms are at a premium, residents are renting out their homes and going on vacation—especially since schools in Vancouver are closed for the Olympics—so Kimpton is giving them a place to go.

Pan Pacific Hotels in Whistler Still Have Rooms Open for The Winter Olympics

The 2010 Winter Olympics will kick off in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada in just a few short months and we fer sure thought that the city's and ski resort's hotel rooms would be long gone by now. In fact, wasn't someone planning to dock a cruise ship in Vancouver to increase the hotel room supply?
Well, thankfully you won't have to train your sea legs. You just have to dip into your savings. The Pan Pacific Whistler has released a limited supply of suites for "public consumption." (Yes, that's what the press release actually said.)
The rooms are open from February 11 to February 28, 2010 at both the Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside and Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre. Guests must reserve a five-night minimum stay. The average room rate is about $1,119 CAD a night for a 1-bedroom suite with a mountain view. Yes, we know. $1,119 a night. And in U.S. dollars it's not that much of a difference--$1,080.
