Never judge a book by its cover, people, especially if that book is the Hard Rock Palm Springs.

Because the Hard Rock is launching a “dive in” movie season this Friday at 8pm. That’s right – not a pool party. Not a rave. Granted, the movie is Tommy, but even so – a genteel movie screening on a Friday night. In conjunction with the Palm Springs International Film Society, no less. Whatever next?!

But the Hard Rock Palm Springs is not your usual Hard Rock. This is Palm Springs, darlings, and they go after a different crowd. Eclectic. Open-minded. Party-orientated, yet not necessarily of a bro disposition. Some more reasons why it’s not your typical Hard Rock:

DRAG SHOWS: When we spent a night in July, the Hard Rock crowd spent the night before the 4th of July pool party with a drag show in the bar, Flirt. It was amazing. The shows are currently on summer hiatus, but are planned to start again in the fall.

FAMILIES: Because Palm Springs is a weekend destination, hotels are largely empty in the weekday. This means that families can check in without having to worry about ravers in the room next door. (Probably.) The midweek dynamic is lowkey and relaxed.

IN-ROOM ENTS: Palm Springs is one of the first Hard Rocks to get free inroom Nexus tablets with Chromecast, meaning you can stream direct from your Netflix account on your room’s 42-in TV without paying for on-demand movies. (Alternatively, if you don't have Netflix you can watch Sam Smith’s Youtube videos on the big screen.) These are currently in the premium patio rooms, but are being rolled out to all rooms.

RATPACK MEMORABILIA: The lobby memorabilia includes your Lady Gagas and Justin Timberlakes, but has a substantial collection of things from Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and other Palm Springs celebs – including Elvis Presley’s gun license.

KERRY SIMON: Ok, this isn’t the first Hard Rock Kerry Simon has done a restaurant for. But we’re really excited about the opening of Simon Kitchen & Bar, due mid-September. This will replace Sessions, which seems to have gone through some traumas since opening.
