Clearly one of the feature spaces in the hotel is the restaurant Les Fresque, beneath its historic frescoed, vaulted ceilings

Evian, the icon of bottled natural hydration, and decades of brilliant marketing, has completed a multi-million Euro renovation of the luxury hotel neighboring their famous mineral springs. The Evian Resort Royal , built in 1909, sits on the French side of Lake Geneva, surrounded by 45 acres of parkland which it shares with the Evian Ermitage and Le Manoir du Golf, a “refuge for golfers.”

As lovely as the hotel looks from this picture, it will look even better with the recreation of the original Belle Epoque roof, destroyed by fire in 1958 and a main feature of the hotel's restoration work.

The Royal was the destination of choice for political dignitaries, royalty, and anyone else who could afford to stay here. The hotel’s history is tied to the famous mineral waters, then known as the Cachat Spring, named after the owner of the lands that surrounded it. The waters were deemed effective for medicinal purposes and were sold in bottles as early as 1829. Today, Evian, owned by the Danone Group, draws water from several sources in the area and also uses the Evian name for skin care products and the Evian Resort.

The hotel’s restoration and renovation has been carried out by interior designer François Champsaur and architect François Chatillon. Together, the two Francois sought to return the hotel to its glory days before the tragic fire of 1958, which destroyed the roof and two top floors. Reportedly, actor Errol Flynn was a guest in the hotel that evening and escaped, PJs intact and without harm.

There are 78 rooms and suites, including seven specialty suites that take up the sixth floor. Amenities include lambs wool stuffed pillows, flat screen TVs and iPod docks, a safe, mini-bar, robes, and free WiFi. We'd like to think there would also be plenty of bottled water.

Here’s a first look at some of the hotel’s newly invigorated spaces.

A glamourous resort needs a glamourous bar, so dress the part and step out at the Bar de Nuit.

Another stellar hang-out space is the Grand Salon, and we suspect the vaulted ceilings are far more impressive in person.

A first look into the Royal Belle Epoque Suite, one of the new suites on the top floor.

Although a rendering, we can see that the Suite Royal has a distinctively hip personality, a refreshing break from traditional royal suites.

The bedroom of the Suite Royal is equally creative, comfortable, and wonderfully unpretentious.

Reservations are ready for mid-August and beyond with rates from €520.
