When you hear the name Motel One, what do you think of? A city-center, budget-chic hotel high on style and low on cost along the lines of citizenM, Qbic, and The Z Hotels? Yeah, neither do we, but that is what the originally German brand is hoping to bring to the British capital with its first English hotel, opening at the end of the year.

It reminds us a little of CityInn, which had two great hotels in the city that were rebranded as “The Mint” as a result of ‘misconception’ in the market about what the brand stood for, before becoming DoubleTree by Hilton. We’ll have to see how the name fares, but construction on the 258-room hotel is coming along nicely on Minories, directly opposite the Indigo at Tower Hill.

The hotel is made up of two parts, with the taller structure (with the darker grey and red & blue stripes) reaching 18 stories. We’re intrigued by the “rainscreen cladding system” with LED backlighting that should give the lower half a “gentle glow at night”. There will also be a green roof and wall, as well as a heat recovery system contributing to the hotel’s environmental friendliness.

This is the one room image that is on the hotel website, but we also find it at a number of the other Motel One hotels, so whether it is a placeholder or room design is copied from one property to the next, we’re not sure. The turquoise from the group’s logo does seem to be a consistent feature, popping up in furniture and decoration throughout.

Reservations for the hotel aren’t open yet, but rates from £89 ($150) are promised, with a breakfast buffet for a reasonable £7.50 ($13) extra.

Thanks for the HotelChatter!

Jason, thanks for the HotelChatter!

The hotel is coming along nicely and will open with 291 non-smoking rooms in early December 2014.

The room photo you have is perfect. All of our rooms within the Motel One Group are all designed with the same luxuries and comforts travellers require for business or leisure stays.

Our rates have been confirmed for 2015 at £98/single and £113/double for our classic rooms; and £118/single; £133/double for rooms with a view of the city.

The hotel will offer flat rates with no seasonal, mid-week or weekend pricing to make budgeting easier for corporate planners. In lieu of close-out dates, we will have short periods (of identified busy periods for London) where supplements (£20, £50 or £70) will be added to the published rates. This will give everyone an opportunity for 'last room availability' via our website.

All room rates include the current 20% VAT and Wi-Fi (both in room and throughout the hotel).

Our All-in-One Living room, breakfast cafe' and 24-hour bar offers an ideal place to relax and meet with family, friends or business colleagues.

A full Continental Buffet Breakfast will be a hit and a perfect start to the day at £9.50, per person, including VAT.

The Motel One Group concept of 'Great Design for Little Money' will be a welcomed addition to London and guests will soon discover and enjoy our Boutique-Designer-Budget hotel in the East End of London with great access to everything the city has to offer.

If I can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact me directly.
