Old Street Magistrates Court Becomes New London Hotel

Where: Old Street, London, United Kingdom

The renderings for London’s former Bow Street Magistrates Court had us seriously excited for its rebirth as a 99-room hotel when we discovered them earlier this year, and now it looks like there is a similar project in progress further east.

The Old Street Magistrates Court, a five-minute walk east of Old Street roundabout and next to Hoxton Square, will become a “5-star boutique hotel styled to fit with the new modern art and media image”. We’re not exactly sure what that means, but we guess the target market is the Shoreditch artsy media set. There will be 128 rooms between the Edwardian structure and a new-built block behind; what that looks like you can see below.

Based on construction progress, which you can follow here, we think it will be mid-2015 before the hotel opens. We hope the green in the rendering indicates there will actually be green space (if only for environmental purposes) covering the hotel. There is reference to a rooftop bar / function area and suites that link to this on the developer’s website.

The few interior renderings show the impressive public spaces in the historical part of the hotel, with above what we assume will be the main lobby.

There should be more excitement below ground though, with a basement area containing a gym, swimming pool, bowling alley, and screening room. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about the hotel.
