Six months after we first cycled past Michael Achenbaum’s future London hotel, phase one of the project seems to be complete: razing the drab 3-story office building that stood between the hotelier and the British version of his rooftop pool parties.

Nothing but a small pile of rubble remains on Curtain Road, a couple of blocks away from Ace Shoreditch (a few years from now, you’ll be able to wave from one rooftop to another).

This is what we’re hoping to see will come in its place: a six-story brand-new hotel with between 120 and 135 rooms, a restaurant, and bi-level bar and rooftop swimming pool. [UPDATE: We were informed by Achenbaum's people that the rendering that floats around the internet is not of his project, so what the hotel will look like continues to be a mystery. Stay tuned] We know bulldozing an existing building is not quite the same as constructing and fitting out a new one, but can we still hope for a late summer-to-fall 2015 opening?

Depending on how British weather decides to behave next year, it might be 2016 before the vintage hipster Shoreditch Achenbaum pool party becomes a reality. When we find out more about the hotel – name, interiors, or other – we’ll let you know.
