August 1 will be a big day in Paris: not only is Peninsula Hotels finally opening its rather grand entry into Europe, the Plaza Athénée will start welcoming guests again after a closure of just under a year.

During that time, the hotel has expanded into three neighboring buildings, adding six guest rooms, eight suites, a ballroom and two event spaces. While they were at it, the Alain Ducasse restaurant, the Bar, and the courtyard garden have gotten a makeover too.

If you want to kick off your August with a weekend of “firsts”, the Plaza Athénée is offering a “Be The First” package, which includes American breakfast for two, two Black Rose Royal cocktails at the new bar, a chocolate souvenir, and a photo of your room or suite ribbon cutting ceremony. Rates start at €875 ($1,190) a night for a Superior Room, running up to €5,015 ($6,824) a night for the Presidential Suite. All you have to do is choose which one comes truly first, the Peninsula or the Plaza Athénée.

That looks really dull

$1190 a night?  No thanks.  It looks like a very tidy old lady's house!

I love Paris, have been there six times, and my three-star hotels have been just fine.  Save your euros for the restaurants!
