Other hotels call themselves pet-friendly or talk about VIPooches. On Nantucket, it seems, they speak a little more baldly. Enter the Woof Cottages at The Cottages and Lofts at the Boat Basin: 12 dog (and cat)-friendly cottages on the waterfront, presided over by two resident innkeepers: Killington and Ellie.

Killington, pictured above, loves leaping on a golf cart to greet guests even more than he loves napping. Ellie (the Westie here), meanwhile, concerns herself with the doggie welcome amenities: tennis balls, raw hide bones and on-the-go water bottles being her top picks.

Taking a dog to the Woof cottages costs $75 (10% of which goes to a local animal shelter, yay!), and for that you get a welcome bag of treats and toys, a pet bed, bowls and litter box, personalized pet tags, doggie turndown and dog-walking services.

But it doesn’t stop there. Check out their Facebook page to see the Cottages’ Pet of the Month competition, where whichever winning pet gets a Boat Basin collar and leash. Not so exciting, except the monthly winners then get entered into a draw for the grand prize – of a repeat stay at the property. Everything to play for! And for the rest of us, cute doggies to drool over.

Have a favorite hotel pet? Got a picture of your pet in residence at a hotel? Do as Killington did and send 'em in!
