· RESIDENCE INN/COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT AT LA LIVE: See inside both hotel brands, which share a building in downtown LA, right here.
·HOMEWOOD SUITES MIDTOWN MANHATTAN: The Times Square hotel missed a June opening date but now the 293 suites are open for booking. Rates start at $269 a night and include a king bed, a twin-size sleeper and a kitchenette with a refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and twin burner stove, plus utensils.
· EVEN HOTELS: The new fitness and wellness-oriented brand from IHG Hotels has opened two locations--one in Norwalk, Conn. and the other in Rockville, Maryland. Rates are around $110 a night and include in-room training zones, free WiFi and another, larger fitness center downstairs, along with the Cork & Kale healthy restaurant concept.
·SHEPHERD'S BUSH LONDON: The first London hotel from Dorsett Hospitality is now open. The rooms, which were fashioned out of an old cinema, are "Chinese-inspired" which makes sense since Dorsett's existing hotels are mostly in Hong Kong and mainland China. Rates start at $210USD a night with a special opening offer.
· X2 RESORTS RIVER KWAI: Located near the Bridge on the River Kwai, a historic WWII spot, the X2 Resort has a front row seat to unspoiled scenery along the famous river. There are just eight luxury “cabin” accommodations, with another 18 planned for 2015 or beyond. Amenities include a Bose sound system, 40” LCD TV, mini-bar, safe, double lavatories and tubs for two, media library, iPads, in-room massage (not free) and internet access (we fear it is also not free.) Rates start at $172USD.
NOT GONNA MAKE IT
· THE GOODLAND HOTEL, a Kimpton Hotel: We thought Santa Barbara's second Kimpton Hotel would open this month but it turns out the hotel needs a little more time and should open instead on August 19th for $199 a night. Just know that the hotel is actually in neighboring Goleta. If you want to be closer to the SB action, try Kimpton's Canary Hotel instead.
