Sleeker. Sexier. Sassier.

Those are the three words used to describe the freshly revealed design of W Chicago Lakeshore after a massive renovation that made this beach-side stunner even more stunning.

Forking over about $38 million dollars for a much-needed refresh of the 520 guest rooms and suites, corridors, and even building exterior, the only hotel that overlooks Lake Michigan is once again the hotspot for visitors. And for locals too thanks to a few new restaurant and lounge offerings.

Gone are the wooden furniture in the guest rooms. In their place, Meyer Davis Design used metals, mirrors and grey stone to complete the "perfectly downtown feel". Since each of the east facing rooms have some of the best views in the city, the finishes in the room use reflections of the sparkling lake as art. If you score a room with a city view, don't worry, the room's design also complements Chicago's obsession with architecture.

The old restaurant, Wave, has been replaced with Current, offering up creative cocktails and seasonal farm-to-table cuisine with Italian and French influences. If the lounge scene if more you speed, the Living Room offers up unobstructed views of the lake with some of the hottest DJs spinning tracks all night long. Rates next weekend start at $469 a night.

Don't be fooled

Don't be fooled. The "renovated" rooms look like they are thrown together with whatever cheap materials they could find, and service is still just as bad as ever. A facelift can't hide the fact that this place needs a complete overhaul of management.

Really? I was just going to give this nice looking place a positive comment. The rooms look nice but I guess I have to go there to really judge and honestly  make such harsh comment.
