Madrid already has a a plethora of beautiful (and affordable) boutique hotels, but in August one more will open. Hotel Urso (or "bear") is a design-driven modern boutique at the crossroads of three central neighborhoods: Chamberi, up-and-coming Tribunal and fabulous LGTB hub Chueca (we'll leave the bear jokes to you). The hotel is operated by Marugal who also manage the boxy Viura in Rioja, and the art-infused Square Hotel in Paris.

Hotel Urso gives new life to a 19th century building that shows off Spain’s richly decorated expression of the Neoclassical period. The renovation and interiors have been done by Antonio Obrador, who also designed sister hotel Cap Rocat in Majorca. The objective was to revive the building’s intricate historic detailing, balanced with interiors featuring unadorned yet stylish Spanish contemporary furnishings and accents.

The hotel will have 78 rooms including 15 suites, included some in a turret (yes, a turret). Wooden floors, high ceilings and muted colors pepped up by midcentury modern furniture give off a sophisticated vibe.

WiFi will be free, as will parking, and there will also be room service supplied by local eateries, a fitness center, and spa treatments featuring Natura Bissé products. There will one restaurant and bar, though it’s refreshing to see on the hotel’s web site that guests are encouraged to check out the area’s regional cuisine.

Here's an introduction to Urso and her outer and inner beauty:

The official opening date is August 9, though that may be optimistic as the first bookable date is August 25. Rates will start at €165 ($224/£134), which is just on the higher end of what we'd pay for this neighborhood. Hope they deliver!
