Surprise! Luxury Switcheroo as SLS Takes Over Mondrian at Baha Mar
Well, this was unexpected. Mondrian Hotels has dropped out of the resort wonderland that is Baha Mar in the Bahamas and SLS Hotels has stepped in.
Baha Mar just announced the switcheroo this morning of SLS taking over the operations of a 300-room property at Baha Mar which Mondrian was previously set to run.
Renowned for its high concept design aesthetic that fosters social engagement, SLS Hotels is the brand that introduced the idea of the hotel as a social experience. SLS at Baha Mar will feature 300 distinctively styled rooms that continue the brand's tradition of celebrating creativity, culture, fashion and art as part of the pursuit of our guests' passions.
Indeed, the Mondrian has been wiped from the website and the entryway of the SLS at Beverly Hills has been slotted in on the SLS page instead.
There's no word yet on which of SLS's food and beverage concepts (Cleo, Katsuya, The Bazaar by Jose Andres) will open inside the SLS at Baha Mar but you can count on at least one of them making an appearance.
The Baha Mar resort complex is still under construction (shown above) but should open in December with not just an SLS on-site, but also a Rosewood Resort, a Grand Hyatt Hotel, a Melia Hotel and the crown jewel--The Baha Mar Resort and Casino. Meanwhile, Mondrian is focusing on London and Doha.
