Introducing our newest hotel guide--HotelChatter's Must Stay Hotels--where we pick four hotels for four different types of travelers in a particular neighborhood of one major city, starting with New York. This is also a seasonal guide so the options may change depending on when you're going. Got a question about where to stay and when? Email us.

Looking for a hotel in New York City? You can troll online review sites, crowdsource on Facebook and comb through endless “Best Hotels” lists but why do all that when we’ve done all the work for you already?

Here are four different hotels to try amongst the bright lights of Times Square. So whether you’re going for pleasure or work and whether you’ve got cash to throw around or have pennies to count, these hotels will fulfill your needs. One common thread running through these hotel picks? They have all free WiFi. So during your stay, you can write us a thank you email for the recommendation.

THE ALGONQUIN: It's over a 100 years old with much historic significance, (Dorothy Parker's famed Round Table group met here), but The Algonquin recently got a modern makeover of its rooms, adding amenities like pillow-top mattresses, back-lit make-up mirrors and extra outlets. There are flashier boutique hotels in the area but The Algonquin has the most soul. And Matilda the Cat!
Room Rate: $350 a night.
Address: 59 West 44th Street between Fifth and Sixth.

ANDAZ FIFTH AVENUE: Technically, not in Times Square but rather two blocks away yet that’s exactly why we like it—so you can retreat to the simplistic yet comfy rooms when you’ve had enough of the tourist madness. Along with WiFi, snacks and drinks from the minibar are complimentary. For wet n' wild fun, book the Splash Suite with its free-standing, deep soaking tub.
Room Rate: $405 a night.
Address: 485 5th Avenue at 41st St.

THE NOVOTEL : When you stay here, there’s no reason not to schedule every meeting at the hotel’s futuristic Supernova Bar which has jaw-dropping views of Times Square. In the rooms, there's a giant workspace and a 46" LCD TV. Just remember to join the Accor Hotels loyalty program, Le Club, to get free WiFi.
Room Rate: $325 a night.
Address: 226 West 52nd Street

CITIZENM: The rooms are way tight but the cool technology--self service check-in, tablet room controls, digital artwork--make up for it. Besides, most Citizens can be found hanging out in the lobby downstairs or upstairs on the rooft at the Cloud Bar. Bookworms will also like the imported Amsterdam bookstore, Mendo, which is incorporated into the lobby.
Room Rate: Around $200 a night.
Address: 218 West 50th Street between 7th and 8th.

Nice List

The selections are indeed distinctly geared to different travellers, and a exciting list indeed.
The Andaz is an absolute standout, and it really epitomises the higher end of the 'lifestyle' boutiques. citizenM is also getting a lot of attention for it's styling, but the 'way tight' is absolutely spot on - which is the case for their sister hotel in Bankside London, which have identical room sizes.
