Ok, so it may not be a turned down plunge pool or drone-delivered champagne, but sometimes, as your guru would say, the most pleasure comes from the simplest things.

Which is probably why we were so excited during our recent stay at Room Mate Laura in Madrid. Because, of course, we can barely stay in a nice hotel without a fancy umbrella being thrust at us by the concierge or the cupboard. But an offer of a raincoat? That’s a new one. A thoughtful one, too.

Unfortunately it failed to rain during our stay, so we were unable to establish whether said raincoats look as come-hither-muggers as branded hotel umbrellas. Still, it’s the thought that counts, right?

Rates at the delightful Laura – which we'll tell you more about another time – start at an extremely affordable €62 ($84, or £50). WiFi and inspirational Bob Marley quotes are free.
