Bulgari Will Bring Fashion To Dubai In 2018

Luxury hotels are a dime a dozen in Dubai — OK, a million a dozen — and it really is only a matter of time before the world’s top fashion designers want to be part of the action. Bulgari Hotels and Resorts have just thrown their hat into the ring with the announcement of their fifth luxury hotel, Bulgari Hotel Dubai, to be located on Jumeirah Bay Island. The hotel group has not given an official opening date, but has said it will likely be in 2018.

Bulgari Hotel Dubai is being developed in agreement with Dubai-based Meraas Holding, and will offer 100 rooms and suites plus 20 villas and a marina. According to Arabian Business, Bulgari’s CEO Jean-Christophe Babin shared the hotel group’s commitment to design and to expanding into the ever-expanding Dubai region:

"We are delighted to launch this visionary project that will convey Bulgari's core values of contemporary design, magnificent craftsmanship and artistic detail. This project is for us part of a larger plan to forge a stronger presence in the GCC. It is a privilege to work with Meraas Holding, a leader in its field, and we look forward to unveiling the Bulgari concept in Dubai as our debut offering in the region."

The architecture and interiors have been designed by Milan-based Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and Partners, who have designed all of the Bulgari Hotels, including Milan, London, Bali, and Shanghai (interiors only). Bulgari Shanghai is scheduled to open in 2015, occupying part of a tower designed by Foster + Partners.

From the rendering above of the Dubai design, we're liking what we're seeing. It is crisp, striking and yes, boldly Italian. But it also integrates Middle Eastern inspired elements, such as the elegant metal screens, cleverly used as deep overhangs to keep the hot sun out, yet allow interesting lighting patterns in.

As far as we know, this will be the third hotel in Dubai carrying a designer label, after Armani Hotel Dubai and Palazzo Versace Dubai, whose delayed opening is projected for the end of this year. Are there any other fashion houses coming to Dubai that we should know about?
