June 19, 2014 at 3:18 PM | by | ()

A celebration of 40 years of Elie Tahari, on June 26th at the Renaissance New York Hotel 57

Renaissance Hotels is preparing to launch its 3rd annual Day of Discovery, a single day event on June 26, at all 157 Renaissance Hotels around the world. Each hotel will invite its guests to "discover" something unique about its city and local community. Just about all corners of culture are covered--music, art, architecture, fashion, nature, cuisine, and last but not least, drink.

Each Renaissance Hotel has its own “RNavigator” to advise guests on the day’s events as well as other activities throughout the summer. From this amazing list of cultural celebrations, we selected eight events that we found enticing as well as visually appealing. For details of all the events hosted on the Day of Discovery, go to here.

1. Renaissance New York Hotel 57:
ICONS of Fashion and Beauty - Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Elie Tahari, 6-8pm

Fashionistas, listen up! The place to be in New York City on June 26th is the Renaissance New York Hotel 57, with a spectacular evening of fashion-infused events throughout the hotel. The hotel's lobby and rooftop, along with the top floor suites, will feature a trunk show and collection of mega-designer Elie Tahari, informal modeling, a Clinique Chubby Stick Mixology event, display of sunglasses galore, a manicure station, and of course, a photographer to shoot your newly created look. [note: Although the Renaissance Hotel web site indicates this event to be sold out, the Hotel's RNavigator tells us all are welcome. Crowds are anticipated, so expect possible lines to get in]

2. Chicago Renaissance Downtown Hotel
The R-Fest, 4-10pm

The hotel's lobby will be transformed into an indoor street fare featuring local artisans of food, drink, art, and more. Starting at 7PM, head to the hotel's Bar Novo for DJ music and a brew tasting tour.

3. Renaissance Dallas Hotel
Discover the Best of Dallas with Throw Back Thursday, 5-10pm

: Fans of Boardwalk Empire might want to check this Prohibition Era re-vival featuring specialty drinks and tequila tasting, hand-rolled cigars and lessons--yes,lessons--on hand rolling cigars, the sounds of Sinatra, and a sampling of coffee roasters.

4. Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel
Discovery of the Palais Royal, 11-11pm

: Paris has no shortage of gorgeous buildings and Palais Royal is certainly one of them. Originally a Cardinal's palace built in 1639, it is now a French National Monument, located across from The Louvre. A one-hour tour of the Palais is available throughout the day, followed by drinks in the Hotel's Bar Chinois. The cost is €20.

5. Renaissance Shanghai Caohejing Hotel
A Journey of Glass, 1:30-8:30pm

The Hotel wisely recommends a visit to the Shanghai Museum of Glass, a striking modern building wholly dedicated to the art of glass and its many creative applications.

6. Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel
View the Hidden Gems of Amsterdam, 12:30– 2:30pm/3:30–5:30pm

: For those who love all things Dutch, this should be a fun outing. For €10, you'll tour the city in an authentic Dutch tram, followed by cheese tasting. Sorry, we can't tell you what the hidden gems are.

7. St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel
Performance by Hudson Taylor, 6pm

Britain's ever popular annual music festival season kicks off with a live performance at the hotel by Irish pop-folk duo Hudson Taylor. By the way, the lobby of the Renaissance St. Pancras Hotel, formerly a railway station, is a must see, especially at night.

[Note: Hudson Taylor's web site (www.hudsontaylormusic.com) indicates they are giving away 150 pairs of free tix; check it out!]

8. Renaissance Sao Paulo Hotel
Football is Our Passion, 3-11pm

We had to include one World Cup entry on our list, and you can imagine how many hotels are hosting football-related events. We chose the hotel in the World Cup home city of Sao Paulo, where the Hotel's Living Lounge will be serving stadium food and drinks (is this a good thing?), live music with DJ, and, especially interesting, a local graffiti artist, Conrado Zanotto, whose interactive painting is ongoing since the start of 2014 World Cup.
