5 Not Lame Gifts For Dads on Father's Day

June 12, 2014 at 2:35 PM | by | ()

You're a good man, Clark.

Dear Dad, we're sorry that you've suffered through years of opening pointless gifts on Father's Day like the bland ties, the boxes of golf balls you didn't need, the fad workout equipment you did need but didn't know how to operate and for that goofy Batman water bottle with "DAD" written on the back in permanent marker (Actual gift I gave my dad. I was 9.)

This year, there's no excuse for ho-hum gifts to give your father this Sunday, thanks to these hotels and their totally not lame offerings.

For The COOL DAD: The Hotel Palomar in San Francisco has put together a "Tie One On & Throw One Back" package that gives men a one night stay at the hotel, a beer-fueled private shopping appointment at the cool casual Bonobos Guide Shop; 20 percent off Bonobos purchases; either a beard trim or a straight razor shave at People's Barber Shop; and a "Get Me a Juice Box" Lunch Box at the hotel's rooftop bar, serving two cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon, a thermos filled with a Hot Toddy and a little bar snack. Rates start at $259 a night but the package must be booked two weeks in advance. Go online at www.hotelpalomar-sf.com and use code TIEON or call 866-373-4941.

For The RUM LOVIN' DAD: The Mandarin Oriental New York is offering a special Father's Day rum tasting flight of the Facundo Rum Collection in their Asiate restaurant, the Lobby Lounge and the MObar. Each selection of the Eximo, Exquisito and Paraiso aged sipping rums can also be paired with a cheese plate. Simply sipping on the rums is $65 per person while doing the cheese pairing is $85 per person. Make your reservations by calling 212-805-8800. The tasting ends on Sunday.

For The FIT DAD: At the Waldorf Astoria Chicago, dads who've been hitting the gym hard can relax with a Muscle Repair Massage which uses arnica homeopathic gel and oil, good for soothing sore muscles. Complimentary Jack Black "Turbo Wash" & "Beard Lube" products are also offered with the treatment. The cost is $290 for a 90-minute session and dad gets use of the spa facilities too, including the pool.

For The TRYING TO GET HEALTHY DAD: Canyon Ranch Hotels are still running their Man-day special through Sunday. If you buy a Canyon Ranch gift card online, you'll get a $50 bonus voucher for every $500 spent. The gift cards are good for overnight stays and they don't expire. The vouchers, however, must be used before June 30, 2015. The deal is in place at the Canyon Ranch resorts in Tucson, Miami Beach, Las Vegas, and Lenox, Mass. It's also not man-specific so you can buy it for your mom in case she was your mom and your dad too.

For The SCREW IT, LET'S EAT DAD: The Four Seasons Los Angeles is hosting a big time brunch for the big man in your life at their Culina restaurant on Sunday. Sample dishes include lobster eggs benedict with choron sauce, oysters on the half shell, Alaskan crab legs and chipotle-lime roasted tiger shrimp. There will be also be Meat Stations serving lamb, pork, beef sausages and sliders. Don't worry, there's a Farmer's Market Salad Station too that will offer light fare, along with gluten-free and vegan options. Just don't forget to get your dad something from the Chocolate Fondue Station. The brunch will be served from 10am to 3pm. The cost is $99 per adult. Add in endless prosecco for an extra $25 per person. Children ages five to 12 are $49 while kids under four are free.

· For THE WANDERLUST DAD: Is the Dad in your life jonesing to get away on a real vacation? Help him get there by buying or gifting loyalty points into his hotel loyalty program.
