Ever wonder how environmentally friendly reusing those towels and switching off the lights in your hotel room makes you? The new Westin Singapore has the answer, in the form of that little red indicator you see on the left of the in-room TV screen: it compares your energy use to that of an average hotel guest, based on analysis of elements like electricity, water, and so on. Moving up or down, you can track just how ‘good’ you are being green.

Opened last November, The Westin sits on top of Asia Square, a two-tower vertical city of 12,000+ office workers in the financial district southwest of Marina Bay Sands. With Singapore’s highest hotel lobby (on level 32), and rooms up from there, there are some good views to be had, but the best way to enjoy them is from the gorgeous infinity-edge swimming pool. Check it out after the jump.

You can watch the massive container ships wait their turn to enter Singapore’s harbor, and on a clear day Sentosa Island and Indonesia in the distance. Marina Bay Sands peeks out depending on your angle behind the blue-glassed cluster of offices to the right of the ferris wheel.

The surrounding area (seen here from the lobby) is likely to change dramatically over the next few years, as this piece of the harbor will be relocated elsewhere, with the land deemed more valuable for further development, which we’re sure will mean more high-rise office and apartment buildings - and who knows - hotels.

The Westin has a total of 305 rooms and suites, ranging from Deluxe Rooms to the Presidential Suite, all done in fairly neutral business / contemporary style with Heavenly Beds and Bath. There’s an Executive Club on the same floor as the outdoor swimming pool and lounge deck, spa, and fitness center.

We liked the airy lobby lounge, which had a corner bar area with groovy chandeliers made out of wine decanters. On the same floor is all-day dining venue Seasonal Tastes, with one floor up the gastro-bar Cook & Brew. Westin has been absent from the Singapore hotel scene for a long time, but its return is worth checking out; rooms start at about SGD350 ($280) a night.
