Budget design hotels are looking good these days and as far as we can see, there’s no end in sight. With brands like Generator on a (design) roll since day one, and new brands like Moxy just getting started, hoteliers are showing the world that great design can be achieved in the budget or economy category of accommodation. Next month, we will have another shining example, literally, of how far reaching--and far out--budget hotel design can go, with the opening of the Prizeotel Hamburg.

This will be the second Prizeotel property, after Prizeotel Bremen, both of which have been designed by the flamboyant Karim Rashid. Rashid has worked with Nh Hotels and MyHotels, and his resume spans the gamut of design including products, fashion, furniture, lighting, and art. Since Rashid is working so closely to create Prizeotel’s brand identity, we would imagine all future hotels under this flag will come from the house of Rashid.

Although the new Prizeotel is just about to open, few details of the design have been released. We did find one clean rendering of a guest room, seen above. We like the colors, sexy lighting, and the raised end of the bed, which is a great place to stash luggage. Amenities that are integral to the brand include 24-hour open doors, free Wi-Fi, 32-inch flat screen TV, music lamp, rainforest showerhead, and designer desk. That should go without saying.

[Room reservations starting June 28,2014; rates from €59]
