You're in luck today! As we told you last month, The Shangri-La at The Shard Hotel in London has just opened its reservations line.

The hotel will open its doors to real, live, paying guests on May 6th with a superior room starting at 450GBP a night, or an eye-watering $748 USD. Thankfully, that includes VAT.

While the rooms will open on May 6 as will Ting, the signature restaurant and lounge on level 35, the hotel's champagne and cocktail bar, Gŏng--located on the top floor and named after the interlocking wooden brackets commonly used in traditional Chinese architecture and featured throughout the venue-- will open later on in July. It will be the highest champagne and cocktail bar in London when it opens. (FWIW, the infinity pool will also open on level 52, but in the fitness center, not as part of Gŏng.)

In case you haven't been following along with the Saga of the Shangri-La at The Shard, the hotel will occupy floors 32-52 of the Renzo Piano-designed building. It will be the first Shangri-La Hotel to open in the UK. It was supposed to open way back in 2012 for the Summer Olympics but there were several major delays, including some pretty big construction hurdles. But now it's clear that May 6 is opening date once and for all.

Indeed, a friend of a friend went through The Shard building the other week and attempted to enter the Shangri-La to use the restroom but according to our friend:

the extremely polite and friendly doorman said they were not open for a few more weeks yet. But from street level, the lobby area looked completely done and 'staged' for opening."

The hotel has been releasing some photos, slowly but surely, on its Facebook page and we're hoping to have an inside look for you very soon. Stay tuned!
