du Vin et du Golf: Hotel du Vin Is Opening at St. Andrews in Scotland

If you care about golf (and probably even if you don’t), you know that it all began for the sport in Scotland – in St. Andrews, or more specifically, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club founded in 1754.

Naturally this draws a lot of travellers, golf aficionados and otherwise, and British boutique chain Hotel du Vin is getting ready to tee off with a new hotel in the city’s Old Town, opening on April 1.

Taking over the former St. Andrews Golf Hotel (there’s an imaginative name for you), there will be 22 bedrooms in a masculine mix of wood, leather, and tartan prints. Each room has a Lavazza coffee machine and Miller Harris products for use in either rain showers or freestanding roll top bathtubs.

Hotel du Vin works the ‘restaurant with rooms’ concept, with a lot of focus on restaurant Bistro du Vin. In addition to the restaurant and the bar, the hotel will refurbish pub ‘Ma Bells’ next door, a local institution.

Despite opening being mere weeks away, these two renderings are what we have at this time, but a browse around the other hotels should give you a sense of what to expect. Rates start at £169 ($282) including dinner and breakfast at Bistro du Vin.
