2. VIRGIN CHICAGO: Ever since Sir Richard Branson told us back in June 2010 that Virgin Hotels were really happening, we've been dying to sleep with a Virgin. We shouldn't have much longer to wait. Now scheduled to open this summer, the Virgin Chicago will have 250 rooms and suites, two restaurants, a rooftop bar and lounge and a spa. What will it all look like? We still don't know but we're hoping this Virgin strips down soon.
3 SLS LAS VEGAS: Any new SLS hotel gets us excited but the Vegas property will be the first casino resort for SLS. (And hello, it's in Vegas, one of our favorite cities.) Construction on the old Sahara (RIP) is well underway (to the tune of $400+ million) and when the property debuts this fall it will have 1,600 guest rooms designed by Philippe Starck, 60,000-sq.ft. of gaming, a sports book from William Hill, a Sayers Club nightclub and restaurants from José Andrés, Katsuya, Umami Burger, and The Griddle Cafe. Something Lovely's Starting indeed.
4. Sofitel So Singapore: Two words is all we need for this property. Karl. Lagerfeld. The Chanel fashion designer and the man who issued this controversial statement about sweatpants has designed the emblem for the Sofitel So Singapore when it opens this May. Although Lagerfeld won't be designing much else in the hotel, which will have 118 rooms and 16 suites, his emblem will be found in various places throughout the hotel. The rooms will also have free WiFi, a complimentary minibar, and integrated DirectStreams in-room technology with complimentary iPad minis. Whee!
5. 1 Hotel South Beach: We've been following the rise and fall and resurrection of 1 Hotels (now 1 Hotels & Homes) since 2006 but it looks incredibly likely that we will get to check-in to a real, live 1 Hotel this spring. The 1 Hotel South Beach is currently under construction in the old Roney Palace, which used to be The Gansevoort South, which was most recently The Perry, on Collins Ave near the W. When it opens this year (no firm date is set), it will have 417 hotel rooms and 163 residential units and direct beach access. And we can't forget about the rooftop pool. Bienvenido a Miami!
