Gansevoort Or Not, This Is Achenbaum's New London Hotel

Where: 45 Curtain Road, London, United Kingdom

Michael Achenbaum’s new hotel in London’s Shoreditch may not have an official name yet, but we can show you where it will be, what it looks like today and (most likely) will look like once it’s finished in 2015.

In fact, the above rendering even has a name (“Hoxton Suites”) on the façade, but we won’t take that to mean much for the moment: construction has barely started, and besides, if Achenbaum decides to go with something other than Gansevoort, we’d like to think it would be something more imaginative than Hoxton Suites? What’s more, the same rendering exists with the words “Bravo Shoreditch” where above it says Hoxton Suites, so make of that what you will.

Moving on from name guessing, the hotel’s location on Curtain Road puts it a few minutes’ walk from Shoreditch High Street Station, just off of Great Eastern Street, with a rather heinous parking garage across the street as the most easily identifiable landmark nearby.

Comparing the long-derelict 3-story office building – now thankfully covered by scaffolding – with the renderings, combined with the demolition firm’s signs displayed everywhere, lead us to believe the hotel will be newly built from the ground up.

The hotel looks to total six stories, with the highest floor having a slightly smaller footprint, creating perhaps the space for rooms with balconies or small terraces. Room count varies from 127 to 135 depending on where we look. We’d expect there to be public spaces, including a restaurant and / or bar, on the ground floor, creating a bit more life at street level – with additional life on the roof it that top-floor pool will become a reality.

If a 2015 opening is going to happen, we’d peg it to be later in the year, if not towards the end. We’ll keep you posted as things progress.
