Le Soleil state they are "an expanding collection of luxury hotels and residences from visionary hotelier and developer Salim Sayani," though this is only their second hotel. The Hotel Le Soleil NYC will, they say, be a sister hotel to Hotel Le Soleil Vancouver, which opened in downtown Vancouver in 1999.
More website blurb:
While each Hotel Le Soleil will have a character all its own; the collection of Le Soleil hotels remain consistent throughout with a carefully nurtured ambiance and striking sense of style. Layered upon an exceptional room product is the personalized service required by a select group of international travellers.
The new hotel will have only 160 rooms, yet the rendering appears to have it towering over the Empire State Building, two blocks away; and the website claims the hotel will open in summer 2014, which conflicts with the date posted at the site.
While looking for more information, we came across this report from New York Yimby, which states that yet another hotel is planned for 59 West 36th Street, just across the street. We went out for another look and found a parking garage (photo below) at the address. The site appears to belong to Hidrock Realty, who also have the Springhill Suites on 37th directly behind the site.
Midweek October rates at Vancouver's Le Soleil start at $153 (US). Given the location and luxury class, we'll be interested to see how that translates to Manhattan prices.
