This report in the NY Daily News about a new business traveler hotel coming to Downtown Jamaica focuses on similar questions.
A neighborhood once plagued by empty storefronts and rundown 99 cent stores scored a major coup in its bid to rebrand itself as a thriving community of shops, restaurants and hotels ... If approved, local business leaders said they expect it to have a domino effect of spurring new development in the area.
We're not going to speculate on the level of community regeneration that the 210-room business hotel will bring, but we can speculate on the brand. From the report:
The three-and-a-half star hotel is expected to be a national brand, similar to the Courtyard by Marriott or Hilton Garden Inn. It will include a sit-down restaurant, three retail shops on the ground floor and a business center.
All else aside, the new mystery hotel's (which is seeking approval this week) biggest draw is certainly going to be its ease of access to JFK Airport: it will be located across the street from the AirTrain.
