A note on the website advises guests that NYLO is in "the final weeks of renovation, which is expected to be completed by Labor Day 2013", going on to say that the LOCL lobby bar is not open and "the hotel is utilizing a temporary lobby that is very small." We headed up to 77th and Broadway a few days ago to take a peek.
The sign is up (as of Tuesday, according to their Facebook page):
But they are still working out of a tiny, cramped lobby space that shares an entrance with Serafina restaurant.:
There's a sign posted telling guests what to look forward to when renovations are complete. We spy the carved wood paneling, Chesterfield-style sofas, and red lacquer reception desk designed to look like an apothecary's chest of drawers we told you about earlier this year.
While snooping around, we managed to corner someone working there who heaved a big sigh when asked when construction was supposed to be finished up. "It was supposed to be yesterday," they told us, but I don't think it's going to be done before the holiday. Maybe next week". Fingers crossed; we are looking forward checking out the finished work.
Rates start at $259 per night.
