QT Hotels to Take Over the Swiss Grand on Bondi Beach
One of Australia's most iconic beaches will be getting a hip new hotel. QT Hotels has announced they will take over the long-standing Swiss Grand Hotel Bondi Beach.
The giant beach-side hotel will get a funky facelift and a high-design room renovation to reflect the QT style that has put them on the map. Just like QT Sydney, (and its four other QT hotels around Oz), the Bondi property will showcase the designs of Nic Graham of g+a Interiors. Not sure if that new elevator gimmick will be in place.
The building will still cater to overnight guests looking for a resort getaway on the beach but it will also feature QT Residences. The residences will sport about 150 fully-contained, fully furnished apartments for quintessential beach living. From the sounds of it, the decor will be a mix of the Gold Coast (60s beach-chic) and Sydney (trendy and urban loft) properties.
These are going to be privately owned units, managed by QT, so the casual traveler will still book rooms through the QT website when the project is complete. Residents will have access to their apartments 28 days per year with one week in the high-season and QT is promising 6% returns in the first 3 years. Even with those positive numbers, be warned, these won't come cheap with price-tags from $590,000 to $21 million for the two "Lighthouse" Penthouses.
The Swiss Grand Resort will close at the end of the season on September 28th to make way for a new era of luxury beach bungalow. If all goes to plan, QT Bondi will be open it's doors in early 2016; a perfect time at the height of surf season.
