Last Chance To Partake in These Hotel Rooftop Parties

August 20, 2013 at 5:43 PM | by | ()

We loathe saying goodbye to summer before it's time, but back-to-school commercials always perform hateful Jedi mind-tricks on us. We begin to believe there's only a short time left between swimsuit and turtle neck season come end of August.

That's why we're presenting this "Last Chance Rooftop Party" guide designed to get you out there before the scene packs up and heads to warmer pastures. Those of you in warmer climates have little to worry about, but for those whose barometers are already dropping, this one's for you!

Le Bain at The Standard NYC
This bi-level roof bar and club in the Meatpacking District is as trendy as it gets. In fact, it might be a tad intimidating to those unfamiliar with The Standard's unofficial "live and let live policy". In other words--the pool area? There may be some toplessness about. The best thing to do is don your shades and focus on the choice music, indulging in wicked drinks, and chowing down on freshly made crepes--savory or sweet. And turn your attention to the glittery Hudson River if your eyes are being assaulted by the bumping and grinding of hips dancing. Join party-girl Susanne Bartsch's outlandish Tuesday soirees, groove to house music all night long (4 am on Friday's) and more. BTW, there's no cover charge to partake in all this fabulousness, but there may be a line. Hit up Facebook for guest list entry.

The SLS Hotel at South Beach
Starting at 12pm on Sunday's, the hotel's trendy Hyde Beach pool area turns into the jumping J'Adore party. Live DJs pump up the jam and bikini-and-Speedo clad party people dance the day away. In between shaking their groove thangs, serious cocktails and loads of bubbly is poured and folks dine off a special snack or Brunch menu. How does churrasco con chimichurri (grilled skirt steak with herb salad )or market ceviche prepared Peruvian style with cancha corn sound? Here's where the beautiful SoBe people show up in droves to snag a cabana or lounger, so reserve early and wear your best bathing attire.

W San Diego
There are two regular rooftop soirees at this downtown hotel near the famous Gaslamp Quarter. One is Siren Saturdays where resident DJ Ayla Simone presents a "Ladies Night" filled with music and drink specials at the bar that offers a grand view of the city. Sip on $5 specialty shots, 2 for 1 beers, $7 house martinis and Patron cocktails. If it gets a bit chilly in the evening, they'll light up the sculpture-like bonfire, made out of stacked beach chairs (you gotta see it to believe it). Too hot? Just take a set of stairs down to WET, the heated outdoor pool and cool off. No worries, you'll still hear the music. Then there's Liquid Sundays where Bloodies, Bellinis, Beer + Brunch is the special from 11:00am - 5:00pm. You'll get $8 Mary's and $7 Twisted Mimosas to go along with your nibbles.

Banyan Tree Shanghai, China
The new Tops Rooftop Bar is the city's first open-to-the-elements watering hole with a 180° unobstructed view of Shanghai, and its awesome panoramas. It extends from the historic Bund district across the Huangpu River, to the famous Lujiazui skyline. In-the-know DJs spin the latest hits, cocktails are shaken and stirred by professional barkeeps, and inventive tapas like foie gras mini burgers are served to patrons draped over chic sofas. During the day, the scene is pretty low key and visitors can take part in an afternoon tea service. Entry fees for Tuesdays and Sundays are 150RMB (25USD) and include 2 drinks. Thursdays through Saturdays have the same fee, and with just one drink. On Wednesdays women enjoy free beverages from 7:00-9:00PM with the 150RMB entrance fee.

The Beverly Hills Hotel
Last month, the legendary Beverly Hills Hotel opened a newly re-vamped pool and terrace, and cafe. Low-key private parties can be hosted at the pool, or even in one of the 11 remodeled cabanas. Host your own festivities in a high-tech hideaway complete with designer hand-painted murals, comfy furnishings, private phones, and a 46-inch flat screen HD TV plus WiFi. There are plenty of day packages to take advantage of including Cabana Couples and Cabana Chill. If you find yourself staying for the night, savor the special complimentary amenities offered to hotel guests lounging poolside, like refreshing mists, sunglass cleaning and fruit popsicles.

The South Place Hotel, London
London is getting into the rooftop party scene, so much so, that now they're getting exclusive about it. That seems to be the case at this hip hotel in the city's Shoreditch area. Want to get it in? You've got to send an email to info@1234@shoreditch.com for the go-ahead. What will this cheeky nonsense get you? Access to the weekly 1-2-3-4 parties where of-the-moment DJs and well-head dancers command the scene. You think you don't want in, but...erm, you might kinda do.
