Killer View: Courtyard Marriott Herald Square's New Monarch Rooftop Bar
We told you about the recent opening of the Courtyard By Marriott Herald Square. It's in a choice location for tourists who plan on embracing Macy's just across the street, and the plethora of shopping options lining the sidewalks.
But what about those who aren't retail obsessed and just want a non-chain bar to hang? Well, we have a good idea that they're going to spend a TON of time at the hotel's new 18th-floor rooftop bar, Monarch.
Built by the Addison Group, the nightlife gurus behind the Ava Lounge at the Dream Hotel, Inc Lounge and more, the Scandanavian-style space will turn the Midtown lounge scene on its side if all goes well. The first thing to notice is the Empire State Building towering in front of you and it just gets better from there. The landmark is already stunning during the day and breathtaking at night when lit up.
This could easily become one of those super secret spots, but it won't be thanks to a special guest who came to the Courtyard's grand opening party...who was it?
Yep, Hizzoner Mayor Michael Bloomberg appeared and gave the Monarch his blessing, which explained why there was so much security around. At first we thought the Courtyard was being a bit extra with all the uniformed heat, but when bigwigs COO David Marriott and Bloomberg began mixing and mingling with hotel guests and the media, we understood that supervision was indeed necessary. And it might have to stay that way, if Monarch becomes as popular as we anticipate.
The bar will be a year-round space thanks to its indoor/outside set-up and will be pour specialty cocktails courtesy of talented Liquid Lab mixologists and serve handmade desserts by Bindi chocolates. So that means we can seek sanctuary there after the summer season is over. That's a royal score.
