The Ritz-Carlton, Montego Bay Closes and Other Caribbean News

The Ritz-Carlton Closes MoBay: The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company is certainly making big moves these days. First vacating Palm Beach and Dublin, and today after nearly 13 years in operation, the corporation ceased management of the Ritz-Carlton Golf & Spa Resort, Rose Hall, Jamaica. The 427-room Montego Bay hotel, one of the region’s most famous, was originally rumored to be sold to Playa Resorts. However, in May, the company issued a statement saying the information was premature.

Word on the street is the hotel will open in the 2013-2014 winter season as a Park Hyatt, the first Hyatt brand in Jamaica and renovations will include adding more than 100 suites. However, at this time there is no mention of the property or this news on the Hyatt website. It appears this is as much of a mystery as the legend of the White Witch of Rose Hall, a famous Jamaican ghost story.

But RC Aruba Is Still Good To Go: While we’re waiting to see the fate of the RC Rose Hall, no doubt the company is focusing a good amount of its Caribbean efforts on the debut of the Ritz-Carlton, Aruba, which is still on track to open at the end of the year. The 320-room resort and suites will all have ocean views, and guests will be treated to four dining venues, a 15-treatment room spa, two swimming pools, and a 24-hour casino.

WestBay Club Gets Generous Backing: Grace Bay Resorts in the Turks and Caicos announced it will take an ownership stake and manage the West Bay Club, a modest-sized resort three miles from the high-end Grace Bay Club hotel. The 47 oceanfront suite property will be renamed West Bay Club, a Grace Bay Resort. For those looking for an intimate Turks and Caicos experience, the West Bay provides one restaurant, a small spa and fitness center. There will be renovations made over the next 18 months, which may see an increase in rates, but for now a studio with kitchenette and free WiFi is $285 per night.

Curacao Is On Sale: There’s just two days left to take advantage of the 50% off sale at Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort in Curacao. Room rates begin as low as $119 per night for travel good through December 23, 2013. Full of character, the Santa Barbara is located on an old plantation and has three pools, four restaurants, a Pete-Dye designed golf course, spa and a marina for your watersports needs. Book here.
