Okay, so apparently this contest was not an April Fool's joke despite what our spam folders decided -- we really are going to vote on America’s best bathroom this summer. America’s Best Restroom Contest is looking for the “top 10 places to go when you’ve got to go.” A battle of the bowls, if you will.

The contest is open to any non-residential restroom in the U.S. that's accessible to the general public. Entries will be judged on cleanliness, visual appeal, innovation, functionality and unique design elements.

“Nominees and finalists run the gamut, from historical buildings or five star luxury hotels and restaurants in big cities, to gas stations along remote highways and mom & pop style diners in the rural Midwest,” says Sabrina Zimring, Survey Editor for Cintas’ America’s Best Restroom Contest.

We're sure you have some good roadside rest stop stories for us, but let's stay focused on the hotels, ok? Do any come to mind?

The last hotel to top the list was back in 2008 when the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee, took home the porcelain crown. But there have been many in the top five since: Radisson Blu Aqua Chicago finished third in 2012 (shown above); the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Crystal City, VA finished third in 2011; the Grand America in Salt Lake City finished second and the The Muse in New York City was fifth in 2010; and the Tremont Plaza Hotel in Baltimore was second in 2009, among others.

We stayed at the Grand America in Salt Lake last year, and whole-heartedly agree that those huge bathrooms deserve some street cred. We're also glad to see the Tremont Plaza Hotel has got its interiors in order -- we weren't so impressed with the office-building views a few years back.

Ten finalists will be announced in August, at which time online voting will begin. You can nominate your pics online now until then at www.bestrestroom.com.
