For hotel guests, this might seem like it has nothing to do with their hotel stay. And in some ways, they are right. You can still book a room at the Modern hotel here starting at $289 a night for a city view room. (Ocean views cost $100 more.) Yet management changes don’t always go so smoothly with the rest of the employees and that resentment can manifest itself in poor service, disappointing facilities and other unsatisfactory conditions. It also doesn’t do much for guest loyalty.
How can a hotel expect guests to keep coming back if there’s always a new name or face or management company behind the desk?
Hopefully, the Modern will avoid all this drama as the managing director told the Pacific Business News that "the staff, management and operation of the property will remain the same." Phew. So far the hotel’s TripAdvisor ratings are holding steady, but one telling review from April 18 mentioned a labor protest:
Kids and families out there protesting the owner's alleged refusal to give them an employment contract - but making them work "at will" instead. It was really passionate, and it made me uncomfortable as a paying guest.
Fingers crossed The Modern can dust the dirt off their shoulders (again) and move on from here without any more major changes.
