Elton John Requests Separate Hotel Room for His...Glasses

Where: Brazil

There will be no Candle in the Wind, or any breeze period period in Elton John’s hotel room at Brazil’s five-star hotel Ouro Minas as he insists on keeping it at 60.8F. Fair enough. We’ve heard about celebs and their riders when it comes to performances. Some more outrageous than others, but we gotta tell ya, this one from the Rocket Man, put us on pause.

Seems Elton requested a separate room for—his glasses. According to the Telegraph, a hotel spokesman said he needed another room for his glasses collection, at a temperature of 60 degrees in order to preserve them.

Let's all take a minute and absorb this.

'Kay, we all know Elton loves his funky specs—they are his trademark—so we’re not hating on him for wanting to take special care of them. In 2010 he told the BBC that he had over 250,000 pair. We're sure he didn't bring them all with him, so couldn't a special case do? A safe in the hotel? Did this need to go as far as an entire room?

Now, the Daily Mail states Elton’s spokesperson claim's the news outed by Brazil's Pampulha newspaper isn’t true, Elton most certainly did not ask for this separate eyeglass room!

Nor did he ask for large vases of red and white flowers (divided separately), four bottles of cranberry juice, a pint of fresh skimmed milk and two bottles of high quality Pinot Grigio. Oh, and the most important thing--a phone line with international access and a television with local channels and cable, especially sports channels. Now *that we can understand, because you know, there are some can't-miss shows and games going on right now and who would want to miss them (though maybe Elton hasn’t heard of TiVo?). He of course wanted to enjoy his room and shows with pão de queijo, a Brazilian snack equivalent to cheese puffs.

We're just trying to figure out when will Elton find the time to enjoy all of these hotel treats when he has four performances in the next few days. He's in Brazil's Belo Horizonte area as part of a current world tour celebrating 40 years of his Rocket Man album.

All we can say is that hoteliers that are on Mr. John's tour schedule best be on guard and take a look at this list now and start getting things in place. BTW, those flowers he so loves to have his room laced with? They best not be daisies, carnations or lilies. Or so we've heard.

BTW, a Standard room at the Ouro Minas begins at $163 right now, and an Superior suite comes in at $295. We're assuming Elton is staying in the Royal Presidential suite, but we're thinking maybe it's not that expensive to rent out a standard room for you know..accessories?
