New York is a fast-moving place. People are on the go. Neighborhoods get gentrified. And hotels don't just sit around either. This month, the 210-room Stay Hotel in Times Square got bored and decided to reinvent itself with a new name: Night Hotel Times Square. This makes it the second "Night" hotel in Manhattan after the original Night Hotel on W 45th St, just two blocks away.

So…what else is changing aside from the new name? Well, as it turns out, not a whole lot.

We received an email from the hotel, explaining that, as of March 6, Stay would henceforth be known as Night Hotel Times Square, "though no renovations are immediately planned." Except maybe for some "soft upgrades and color scheme changes to the guest rooms towards year's end."

Well, gee. The reason this makes us chuckle is because, back when the hotel opened in 2008, we learned it had taken over a former Quality Inn. And as far as we could tell, owner Vikram Chatwal didn't really do much to the place except add a flashy new lobby (pictured above). So, essentially, guests were sleeping in the same ol' Quality Inn room (which somehow managed to charm the pants off a NY Times critic) but with a new sign slapped on the building.

Now, the former Quality Inn which turned into a Stay is now turning into a Night, even though it'll still have the look and feel of Stay (ie, small) when guests stay there. Got that?

Rates from $288/night.
