Swissôtels has recently revealed the first of its new “signature rooms” at Geneva's Swissôtel Métropole in the city's shopping and business quarter and close to the Old Town. Twelve rooms in total have been renovated for the launch of this category that focuses on design and comfort, with some pretty nifty tech advances, too.

Naturally, being a Swiss brand, the design follows an alpine motif as inspiration, including parquet wood floors and--the show stopper--a colorful wall that's reminiscent of Swiss Alp mountain flowers. Sounds delightful, doesn’t it? The exclusive wallpapers for this scene were designed for the hotel by renowned Swiss textile manufacturer Jakob Schlaepfer, who supplies luxury fashion houses such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Vivienne Westwood with material goods.

Then there's the good stuff for hotel tech geeks out there.

The signature rooms' lights and electronics are all navigated via a central control panel, and the 150-channel television is integrated into a room-high mirror with a media connection panel that lets you connect your MP3 player, iPad or notebook and view your own movie or TV show. You’ll never have to be on the road without Grimm again.

Open, mosaic bathrooms sound particularly special, with steam showers or Jacuzzi baths with jet stream. The brand's own toiletry line, Pürovel, is produced by Swiss farmers using pure oils and local herbs. There are also some nice freebies you get with the signature rooms such as the minibar, ironing service on arrival, Nespresso machines (well, free Nespresso coffee for the machine but you can’t take the machine home with you... drats) and WiFi are all included.

The hotel group is planning to spread the signature room love around and add them to other hotels. Details aren't available yet as to when and where, but we’ll keep you in the loop.

Rates in April for a signature room at the Métropole is 610 CHF ($642), but book the fully-prepaid Advance Rate and it drops down to 518 CHF ($545).

Swissotel

Swissotel is an odd brand to me. Is it considered a luxury brand on the level of the Ritz or Four Seasons? Or upper mid range like the Renaissance or Westin?

Upper Mid

I think there needs to more of a Swissotel presence in the US as it's a very good brand. To me, it is on the level of a boutique Westin/Hyatt/Hilton--but those are its business hotels. They've got others that are more resort-like, just like the other corporate hotels do, so the style/vibe changes a bit.
